Philadelphia Young Playwrights (PYP) announced today that, after 15 years as its Executive Producing Director, Glen Knapp is choosing to leave the organization to pursue new career opportunities in education and in the foundation world.

Under Glen's leadership, PYP has nurtured the voices of nearly 30,000 students through its intensive arts-education program that pairs a professional teaching artist with a classroom teacher to support students in the process of writing a play. The program now reaches more than 70 classrooms in the Philadelphia region and has launched the careers of several new American playwrights.

"For 15 years, I have been taught, inspired and challenged by the extraordinary young people who have told their stories through PYP," said Knapp. "I'm confident that this fantastic organization has a strong foundation and a bright future, and I look forward to following its important work as I move on to the next phase of my personal career journey."

"We are grateful to Glen for his leadership during an amazing tenure at the helm of PYP, and we wish him continued success in the future," said Jim Geier, chairperson of the PYP Board of Directors. "The Board is committed to finding a new leader who can continue his legacy and realize the vision of the future that Glen has pursued with such passion and imagination."

Glen will continue in his position through the remainder of 2015. The Board has engaged the search firm of Management Consultants for the Arts to find a new Executive Director capable of leading PYP into its next era of service to Philadelphia's young playwrights.
