Act II Playhouse Producing Artistic Director Bud Martin announced that its acclaimed production of the comedy Art has been extended by a week, to June 12.
Additional performances are: Wednesday, June 8 at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m., Thursday, June 9 at 8 p.m., Friday, June 10 at 8 p.m., Saturday, June 11 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, June 12 at 2 p.m.
Tony Braithwaite and Ian Merill Peakes will continue playing best friends Marc and Serge. During the extension week, local actor Will Dennis will take over the role of Yvan, replacing Pete Pryor who plays the role through June 5, but had a previous commitment during the extension week. Dennis is a real-life friend and former student of Braithwaite, and has performed at the Kimmel Center, Montgomery Theater and Society Hill Playhouse.
Written by
Yasmina Reza (author of the recent Broadway hit God of Carnage) and translated by
Christopher Hampton, Art is the story of male friendship and modern art. When Serge (Peakes) buys a nearly all-white painting for a very expensive sum, his best friend Marc (Braithwaite) goes ballistic. A third friend, Yvan (Pryor through June 5, Dennis during the extension), is pulled into their wrangling, and battle lines are drawn. By turns funny and explosive, Art is a sly, revealing portrait of what men expect from their friends - and themselves.
Tickets are $27 for Wednesday through Thursday and $33 for all Friday -Sunday performances. Tickets can be ordered online at
www.act2.org, in person at Act II at 56 E. Butler Avenue, or by calling the Act II Box Office at (215) 654-0200.
The design team is comprised of scenic designer Dirk Durossette, costume designer
Wade Laboissonniere, Sound Designer
David O'Connor, and lighting designer
James Leitner.
