The Australian Ballet 2016 season

Cinderella

Everyone's favourite fairytale - with a twist. Witty, vibrant, glamorous and romantic, Alexei Ratmansky's Cinderella will sweep audiences off their feet. After sell-out seasons in Melbourne, Sydney and Adelaide, this smash-hit crowd-pleaser heads north to bewitch audiences in an exclusive Brisbane season.
BRIS 19-24 FEB (6 performances)
Lyric Theatre, QPAC

Vitesse

In a heart-pounding night of modern ballet, three of the world's greatest contemporary choreographers - Christopher Wheeldon, Ji?i Kylián and William Forsythe - shake the artform to its foundations.

State Theatre, Arts Centre Melbourne
SYD 26 APR-16 MAY (11 performances)

Swan Lake

From the first yearning bars of Tchaikovsky's score, Swan Lake casts an otherworldly spell. With its bewitched Swan Queen, its doomed Prince, its glittering villainess and its drifts of white tutus, this is the ultimate night at the ballet.
SYD 1-20 APR (21 performances)
Joan Sutherland Theatre, Sydney Opera House
ADE 26-31 MAY (6 performances)
Festival Theatre, Adelaide Festival Centre
MEL 7-18 JUNE (14 performances)

Symphony in C
Spins, leaps and lifts: Symphony in C is dance at its most exhilarating. This all-thrills double bill offers George Balanchine's tutu extravaganza alongside a gala program of glittering party pieces and two new works from The Australian Ballet's emerging choreographic stars.
SYD 29 APR-14 MAY (9 performances)
Joan Sutherland Theatre, Sydney Opera House

Romeo and Juliet

Melbourne audiences will swoon for one of the USA's leading ballet companies when Houston Ballet presents its vibrant, sensual new production of Romeo and Juliet. Acclaimed Australian choreographer Stanton Welch's traditional production is faithful to the Shakespearean tale, brimming with swordplay, bawdy humour and tragic love, all set to Sergei Prokofiev's heartrending score.
MEL 30 JUNE-9 JULY (12 performances)
State Theatre, Arts Centre Melbourne

Nijinsky

Celebrity, visionary, muse: Vaslav Nijinsky changed dance forever with his explosive leap and his shockingly sensual choreography, before a dark descent into madness ended his career. John Neumeier, one of the greatest living choreographers of the story ballet, charts Nijinsky's rise and fall through the vivid memories unfolding in the dancer's mind during his last performance in a Swiss hotel.
