FRINGE WORLD Festival 2014 Program Launches

The long anticipated FRINGE WORLD Festival 2014 Program officially launched today with a whopping 450 shows across 60 venues!

Please see details of some of the scintillating acts below, both national and local, to complement your summer entertainment. Located at the De Parel Spiegeltent in the Urban Orchard, Perth Cultural Centre and the new Salon Perdu Spiegeltent, Pleasure Gardens, Russell Square.

Olympic gold medallist Matthew Mitcham, in Twists and Turns World Premiere 1 to 8 Feb, at 6pm De Parel Spiegeltent. Matthew Mitcham OAM, won gold with the highest single-dive score in Olympic history. Revealed in his recent autobiography, life behind the spotlight was plagued by mental illness and drug abuse, overcome to achieve greatness. Away from diving, Matthew is a talented singer and musician who shares the highs and lows of his incredible young life through theatre and song in the world premiere of his first solo show.

Michael Griffiths In Vogue: Songs By Madonna Encore season 4 to 9 Feb, 8pm De Parel Spiegeltent. Michael Griffiths IS Madonna as you've never heard or seen her before. No accent, costume or wig. Just 'Madge' accompanying herself at the piano leading you on a journey through her tough life and tender songs. Strike a pose and get into the groove as Madonna opens her heart!

Return of 2013 award winner of the Vinaceous Overall Best Cabaret Award, Spanky inCandice McQueen: Nasty!Encore season 4 to 9 Feb at 10pm, De Parel Spiegeltent. The immortal demi-goddess Candice McQueen is a Mr Sister who has partied her way around the world for thousands of years. The show is a comedy-cabaret about Candice falling in love with a fallen 90s screen idol and the journey to save both their lives weaving 90s pop culture, songs of the 90s and fashion. A cabaret reworking of Orpheus meets Clueless. "The 'Mr Sister' has eternally strong stage presence, great comedic timing and an ability to draw you in to her bizarre world" Theatre Press

Spanky's new show, Dead Bitches WA Premiere 10 to 18 Feb, 9pm Salon Perdu Spiegeltent , Pleasure Gardens. Doomsday is approaching, as predicted by the Mayan calendar, and in an empty hospital room Nurse Kaelene Dakota Nancypot is visited by four doomsday apocalyptic visions that herald in the imminent end of days. Dead Bitches explores ageing, death and disease projected through a lens of celebrity. Melded together by the music of contemporary singer songwriters, this rich tapestry of evocative music which includes Jazz, R n B, Pop and Trip Hop.

Stratosfunk's in Shake Down! World Premiere, 10 to 14 Feb, 10.30pm De Parel Spiegeltent. Which came first: The dance move? Or the song about the dance move? Winners of the FRINGEWORLD 2013 Music Award, spectacular 9-piece Soul band Stratosfunk stage an epic 'Shake Down' to pay tribute to the songs that fuelled the dance-craze phenomenon of the 50s and 60s. Let's Twist!

Yana Alana inBetween the Cracks WA Premiere, 20 - 23 Feb, 10.45pm Salon Perdu Spiegeltent Diva extraordinaire - the feather ruffler, the rabble rouser, the cabaret provocateur, Yana Alana, takes to the stage for her first solo show (with two people in it). Traversing the private places and deepest holes of this multi-award winning diva as she opens up and bares all in this bent night of blues, burlesque and blame.
