Black Swan State Theatre Company will present the astral comedy of Noël Coward's Blithe Spirit in the Heath Ledger Theatre, State Theatre Centre of WA from Saturday 18 July to Sunday 9 August 2015.

When writing Blithe Spirit, Noël Coward knew a comedy about ghosts would be a hard sell in wartime Britain, but he was convinced that the lightness of it would prevail. "I knew it was witty, I knew it was well constructed, and I also knew that it would be a success."

And he was right. Debuting to great acclaim on the West End in 1941 and conquering Broadway soon after, Blithe Spirit is widely considered to be one of Coward's greatest works and has had many revivals.

Socialite and novelist Charles Condomine invites eccentric medium and clairvoyant, Madame Arcati (Roz Hammond - Mad as Hell, The Librarians, Muriel's Wedding) to his house to conduct a séance, hoping to gather material for his next book. Unfortunately for Charles (Adam Booth), the psychic summons the ghost of his dead wife, Elvira (Jo Morris).

It's soon clear that the temperamental and morally untidy Elvira wishes to reunite with her husband, much to the dismay of Charles' new (and living) wife, Ruth (Adriane Daff), who cannot see or hear the ghost.

Actor and comedian Roz Hammond will bring Madame Arcati to life in all her madcap, outlandish glory, alongside WA favourites Adam Booth, Adriane Daff, Michelle Fornasier, Ella Hetherington, Michael Loney and Jo Morris.

One husband, two feuding wives and a whisper of mischief in the air - who will win in Coward's unworldly comedy?
