BWW Review: THE WILD PARTY, The Hope Theatre
by Rona Kelly - Jan 12, 2017

Billed as the 'little theatre with big ideas', The Hope Theatre is a transformative space. This year alone, it's been everything from a hospital waiting room to a post-apocalyptic bunker. Audiences at The Wild Party will leave amazed not just at how the space transforms, but the actors. Taking on sixteen parts between them, Joey Akubeze and Anna Clarke are perfect partners in rhyme in this sexy and stylized production from Mingled Yarn.

BWW TV: Behind the Scenes of THE WILD PARTY
by Christina Mancuso - Jan 10, 2017

The Wild Party's lust-fuelled story of an affair between two cabaret stars, and the final, fatal party they throw in their seedy Hollywood apartment meant this classic poem was widely banned when it was first published in 1928.

by Nicole Rosky - Apr 13, 2016

Today in 2000, The Wild Party opened at the Virginia Theatre (now the August Wilson Theatre), where it ran for 68 performances. The Wild Party is a musical with a book by Michael John LaChiusa and George C. Wolfe and music and lyrics by LaChiusa. It is based on the 1928 Joseph Moncure March narrative poem of the same name. The Broadway production coincidentally opened during the same theatrical season (1999-2000) as an off-Broadway musical with the same title and source material. Its plot centers on a party - fueled by bathtub gin, cocaine, and uninhibited sexual behavior - hosted by Queenie and Burrs, whose relationship is disintegrating. The cast included Toni Collette (making her Broadway debut) as Queenie, Mandy Patinkin as Burrs, and Yancey Arias as Black.
