Jazz at Lincoln Center to Webcast ESSENTIALLY ELLINGTON, 5/5 & 6

Jazz at Lincoln Center announces the competition at the 17th Annual Essentially Ellington High School Jazz Band Competition & Festival will be video streamed live online. The free webcast from the Rose Theater at Frederick P. Rose Hall on May 5th and 6th will feature performances by the fifteen competing high school jazz band finalists, as well as the announcement of the top placing bands. The video will also be available online for one week following the Competition & Festival.

BWW JR: NEWSIES- Still Fierce

Last October I took my daughter to see NEWSIES at Papermill Playhouse and was thrilled to find another rare gem for my small collection of shows that parents can genuinely enjoy with their children. I'm relieved to say that the production's move to Broadway hasn't changed the its status on my short list. In fact, I think it's gotten better. It's been two days since we saw the show and I still can't get 'And the World Will Know' or 'Carrying the Banner' out of my head and my daughter remains a sworn fan for life.

Jewish Museum Presents POWER TO THE PORTRAIT FAMILY DAY, May 20

The Jewish Museum will present Power to the Portrait Family Day, a fun-filled multi-generational event celebrating the colorful worlds of artists Kehinde Wiley and Edouard Vuillard on Sunday, May 20 from 12 noon to 4 pm. Activities include two performances by Jukebox Radio, a huge drop-in art workshop, and self-guided family gallery hunts. The family day is inspired by The Jewish Museum's exhibitions, Kehinde Wiley/The World Stage: Israel and Edouard Vuillard: A Painter and His Muses, 1890-1940. This event is free with Museum admission.

Newsies, the new American musical, which is currently in performances at Broadway's Nederlander Theatre (208 W 41st St) was featured on ABC's 'Good Morning America' this morning, April 16. For the second installment in their series 'Cam's Cam-eo,' the 'Good Morning America' cameras were there as correspondent Cameron Mathison made a series of cameos in a recent performance of Newsies, after spending the day with the company learning how to be a newsie. Newsies, the new American musical, which is currently in performances at Broadway's Nederlander Theatre (208 W 41st St) will be featured on ABC's "Good Morning America" Monday, April 16 in the 8:00am hour. For the second installment in their series "Cam's Cam-eo," the "Good Morning America" cameras were there as correspondent Cameron Mathison made a series of cameos in a recent performance of Newsies, after spending the day with the company learning how to be a newsie. "Good Morning America" airs nationally on ABC from 7:00 - 9:00a.m.

The Jewish Museum will present Timbalooloo with Oran Etkin on Sunday, May 6 at 2:00 pm. Oran Etkin's whimsical concert for families blends global melodies and rhythms, from the music of Africa to klezmer and jazz. Etkin will play tunes from his 2010 album, Wake Up, Clarinet! and will create musical connections between Africa and Israel in conjunction with the Museum's current exhibition, Kehinde Wiley/The World Stage: Israel. Etkin's interactive performance effortlessly conveys sophisticated concepts in a fun musical language that kids of all ages can understand.

The Jewish Museum to Present Dirty Sock Music Romps, 1/31-4/3

The Jewish Museum will present Dirty Sock Music Romps, a weekly music class for toddlers on ten Tuesdays from January 31 through April 3, 2012 from 10:00 to 10:45 am. This hip and original class is being taught by Mike Messer, lead singer of The Dirty Sock Funtime Band. Toddlers ages 6 months to 4 years will play on a series of kid-sized instruments, learn to keep beats, and have a chance to dance, jump, clap, sing, and laugh. The songs used in the class are an upbeat mix of Dirty Sock hits, kid friendly rock songs, children's classics, and tunes fromSock-A-Delic, the new Dirty Sock Funtime Band album. Each song is an invitation to participate through call-back lyrics, interactive dances, and hands-on jamming. All families will receive a Dirty Sock Funtime Band CD..

David Grover to Perform Passover Concert at The Jewish Museum, 4/1

The Jewish Museum will present a Passover concert for families by David Grover with Grover's Gang, on Sunday, April 1 at 2 pm. Singer/guitarist David Grover's folk sound for the 21st century will entertain adults and children alike. Children can celebrate freedom and dance to such songs as The Matzah Song, Go Down Moses and Man Come Down to Egypt. Grover will be joined by special guest Meredith Wright, founder of the kids' music band Sweetbeatz, adding her jazzy voice to the holiday music. Grover's Gang also features singer/bassist Kathy Jo Grover, singer/drummer/guitarist Mike Sacco, and Charlie Tokarz on woodwinds.

NEWSIES Announces Special Opening Night Ticket Lottery!

Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS (BC/EFA) has just announced that 100 tickets to Newsies will be available via lottery for the opening night performance on Thursday, March 29th. The ticket allotment has been donated by Disney Theatrical Productions, allowing 100% of the proceeds to benefit BC/EFA. Beginning at Noon, patrons are invited to enter the lottery for 100 tickets; winners will be drawn at 12:30PM. Winners may then purchase up to two $30.00 cash only tickets to that evening's performance. Winners must be present with valid identification at the time of the drawing.

Newsies, the new American musical, is currently in previews at the Nederlander Theatre (208 W 41st St) for a strictly limited 101 performance run following its critically-hailed stint at Paper Mill Playhouse last fall. As BroadwayWorld previously reported, the cast recorded the original Broadway cast recording earlier this month, and the album is currently available for pre-order on iTunes (release date 4/10) and in hardcopy form (release date 5/15). Additionally, fans can get a first listen of 'Sieze the Day' and 'Carrying the Banner' here!

Newsies, the new American musical, began performances on March 15 at Broadway's Nederlander Theatre for a limited run. Kicking off their limited run (now extended through August 19), the Broadway company of Newsies will make their national television debut on today, March 22nd when they perform "Seize The Day" and "Santa Fe" on ABC's "Good Morning America."
