Barrel of Monkeys, in collaboration with the The University of Chicago Department of Theatre and Performance Studies, invites you to join student-authors, their classmates, family and educators for the annual CELEBRATION OF AUTHORS, featuring performances of student-written stories created at all of its partner schools and after-school program during the 2014-2015 season. Performed by more than 30 Barrel of Monkeys actors and musicians and directed by Artistic Director Joseph Schupbach, this FREE event takes place Tuesday, June 2, 2015 at 7:30 pm (6:30 pm reception) at the University of Chicago's Reva and David Logan Center for the Arts, 915 E 60th St. in Chicago.  For reservations, please call (312) 409-1954.  (more...)

The life and times of Pulitzer Prize-winning author Willa Cather are explored in the show, "Call Me William: The Life and Loves of Willa Cather" by Prudence Wright Holmes. Holmes, who also stars in the production, will perform the show at The Alden in McLean at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 19. Tickets are $20 for the general public and $15 for McLean tax district residents. The theatre is located inside the McLean Community Center at 1234 Ingleside Avenue. (more...)

For the first time in the Iveys' 10-year history, two people will share the Lifetime Achievement Award. Michael Robins and Bonnie Morris, co-producing directors of Illusion Theater, were honored at the celebration of Twin Cities theater on September 22 at the Historic State Theatre in downtown Minneapolis. The Los Angeles Philharmonic Association presents The Big Picture: Hitchcock!, a thrilling tribute to the groundbreaking films of Alfred Hitchcock, at the Hollywood Bowl on Sunday, August 31, 2014 at 7:30 PM. Hosted by Academy award-winning actress Eva Marie Saint (On the Waterfront, North by Northwest), the evening will feature mesmerizing, haunting and psychologically gripping scores by Bernard Herrmann, Dimitri Tiomkin, Alfred Newman, Franz Waxman, Miklos Rozsa and more. Iconic scenes from such Hitchcock classics as Vertigo, Psycho, Dial M for Murder, Rebecca, Spellbound, North by Northwest and more will be projected in HD on the Hollywood Bowl's big screens while the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, conducted by David Newman, performs selections from the films' magnificent scores. As the joys of their youth give way to the harsh realities of adulthood, they struggle to stay together. Sprawling fields of wheat, bustling train stations, rain-soaked kisses, wind-blown hair, and the rest of Petunia and Chicken's world are brought to life with only imagination, movement, and song.
