For the first time in the Iveys' 10-year history, two people will share the Lifetime Achievement Award. Michael Robins and Bonnie Morris, co-producing directors of Illusion Theater, were honored at the celebration of Twin Cities theater on September 22 at the Historic State Theatre in downtown Minneapolis. The Los Angeles Philharmonic Association presents The Big Picture: Hitchcock!, a thrilling tribute to the groundbreaking films of Alfred Hitchcock, at the Hollywood Bowl on Sunday, August 31, 2014 at 7:30 PM. Hosted by Academy award-winning actress Eva Marie Saint (On the Waterfront, North by Northwest), the evening will feature mesmerizing, haunting and psychologically gripping scores by Bernard Herrmann, Dimitri Tiomkin, Alfred Newman, Franz Waxman, Miklos Rozsa and more. Iconic scenes from such Hitchcock classics as Vertigo, Psycho, Dial M for Murder, Rebecca, Spellbound, North by Northwest and more will be projected in HD on the Hollywood Bowl's big screens while the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, conducted by David Newman, performs selections from the films' magnificent scores. As the joys of their youth give way to the harsh realities of adulthood, they struggle to stay together. Sprawling fields of wheat, bustling train stations, rain-soaked kisses, wind-blown hair, and the rest of Petunia and Chicken's world are brought to life with only imagination, movement, and song. The final opportunity to attend the award-winning East Lynne Theater Company's 'Tales of the Victorians' this season is today, October 12 at 4:00p.m. at The Henry Sawyer Inn, 722 Columbia Ave. While taking tea and tasting treats at this lovely B&B, professional storyteller and long-time ELTC favorite Stephanie Garrett and artistic director Gaye Stahlhuth will read classic stories from the vast collection of America's rich repertoire, which include works by Edna Ferber, Willa Cather, O. Henry, and Zora Neale Hurston. Cost for this popular pastime is only $10.00, and like other ELTC events, children are always welcome, and, ages 12 and under are free. (more...)
