Cutting Ball Theater to Continue 15th Season with Alfred Jarry's UBO ROI, 1/24-2/23

Cutting Ball Theater continues its 15th season with Alfred Jarry's UBU ROI in a new translation by Rob Melrose. Russian director Yury Urnov (Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company) helms this irreverent take on world leaders. Featuring David Sinaiko, Ponder Goddard, Marilet Martinez, Bill Boynton, Nathaniel Justiniano, and Andrew Quick, UBU ROI plays January 24 through February 23 (Press opening: January 30) at the Cutting Ball Theater in residence at EXIT on Taylor (277 Taylor Street) in San Francisco. Linda Lavin to Lead Nicky Silver's TOO MUCH SUN at Vineyard Theatre; Opens 5/20

The Tony Award-winning actress Linda Lavin will return to the Vineyard Theatre (108 E. 15 St.) - where she created the role of Rita Lyons in Nicky Silver's acclaimed comedy THE LYONS in 2012 - in Mr. Silver's newest work, TOO MUCH SUN, with previews set to begin May 1, 2014 prior to an official opening on May 20. Mark Brokaw, who directed THE LYONS - including the play's recent celebrated debut in London - directs TOO MUCH SUN.

The Brown University/Trinity Rep MFA Programs proudly presents Will Eno's deeply moving and poetic comedy, Middletown, directed by Heidi Handelsman (Brown/Trinity Rep MFA Programs '14). A meditation on birth and death, Middletown examines the mystery of existence through the everyday lives and relationships of ordinary people. The Flea Theater presents the World Premiere of Brian Watkins' My Daughter Keeps Our Hammer. It will be directed by Flea Resident Director Danya Taymor (I Hate Mexicans) featuring members of The Bats, the resident acting company at The Flea. Working Theater to Present Michael Milligan's MERCY KILLERS, Begin. 1/7

Working Theater, in its 29th season off-Broadway, will in collaboration with the Harold Clurman Lab Theater, offer a piercing perspective on healthcare reform in the United States, with MERCY KILLERS, written and performed by Michael Milligan. The play, directed by Tom Oppenheim will make its off-Broadway premiere on January 7th at the Stella Adler Studio's Theater 2B, 31 West 27th Street. The production will have its official opening on January 15th and will be performed in various communities throughout New York City in order to directly realize Working Theater's mission to bring theater to communities where working people live.

Theatre Communications Group (TCG) has announced a new edition of the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning August: Osage County by Tracy Letts. This edition coincides with the December 25 release of a major motion picture adaptation from The Weinstein Company starring Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts, Chris Cooper, Dermot Mulroney, Sam Shepard, Juliette Lewis and Ewan McGregor.

Oliver Butler to Direct World Premiere of Will Eno's THE OPEN HOUSE at Signature Theatre; Performances Begin 2/11

Signature Theatre has announced the World Premiere of Pulitzer Prize finalist Will Eno's new play THE OPEN HOUSE. THE OPEN HOUSE will be directed by Oliver Butler, who is a founding member and co-Artistic Director of The Debate Society. The production runs February 11 through March 23, 2014 with a March 3, 2014 opening night in The Romulus Linney Courtyard Theatre at The Pershing Square Signature Center (480 West 42nd Street between 9th and 10th Avenues). Tickets will go on sale January 14, 2014. All tickets for the initial run of the production are $25 as part of the Signature Ticket Initiative: A Generation of Access.

American Theater Company announces Town Hall, a series of interdisciplinary artistic events that spark debate on a national issue. In collaboration with Stella Adler Studio of Acting's Harold Clurman Laboratory Theater Company and the Illinois Single Payer Coalition ATC proudly presents Mercy Killers, written and performed by Michael Milligan, directed by Tom Oppenheim. Mercy Killers is the winner of a prestigious First Fringe Award from The Scotsman for best new writing at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, receiving rave reviews calling the play, '…shattering' (The Stage) and '…theatre distilled to its most basic essentials' (The Scotsman). This will be the play's only Chicago stop before going to a six-week Off-Broadway run this January and February at the Harold Clurman Laboratory Theater in New York City.
