The play, a fair and angry indictment of social injustice, asks a number of important questions, and the gorgeous cast, under the adept direction of Atlanta-favorite Tinashe Kajese Bolden and Keith Arthur Bolden, and with help from an incredibly able design team, brings the indictment to powerful life.

Artistic Director Kenny Leon and True Colors Theatre Company are thrilled to present Christina Ham's Nina Simone: Four Women beginning this September. In its Atlanta debut, Nina Simone: Four Women, directed by Michele Shay, brings to life the four women from the play's namesake song, giving voice to "Aunt Sarah", "Sephronia", "Sweet Thing", and "Peaches". The day after the 1963 bombing of the 16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama, these four women find themselves in search of solace in the ruins of the church, where Nina is struggling to compose a song that can capture the pain and protest that resides in her heart. This play with music includes some of Nina Simone's most popular civil rights anthems such as "Mississippi Goddam," "Go Limp," and "Young, Gifted, and Black."

Second in Horizon's New American Dreams Series, How Black Mothers Say I Love You is a powerful, funny and touching tale of a Jamaican mother and her daughters back home together - laughing, shouting and searching for love. How Black Mothers Say I Love You makes its U.S. premiere at Horizon Theatre Company with an all-star cast and creative team, with performances beginning July 13. Ottawa Tonite says, "Playwright Trey Anthony's love letter written to those women in her family that had to leave their children behind has both a whimsical and a hard edge to it. This play is good - standing ovation good.  Sweet, touching and funny, ample in its raw emotion, How Black Mothers Say I Love You can't help but work its way into your heart." The play is sponsored by the family and friends of Denise McLaughlin in honor of her milestone birthday.   Performances begin July 13 and run through August 26 (press opening on July 13) on the intimate Horizon Theatre stage in Little Five Points/Inman Park.

The new Broadway production of JEKYLL & HYDE, starring Constantine Maroulis and Deborah Cox, plays its final performance today, May 12, 2013, after 15 previews and 30 regular performances at the Marquis Theatre. Direct from a 25-week national tour which launched in October 2012, JEKYLL & HYDE began previews on Broadway on April 5 and opened on April 18, 2013. BROADWAY SESSIONS is described as an evening of musical performances, games and open mic featuring a new Broadway guest each week. The show is created and hosted by Ben Cameron (Bway Wicked, Aida and Footloose) and features musical director Joshua Stephen Kartes on piano.

The New York Times reports that film producer Mike Medavoy ('Black Swan') and Rick Nicita of RP Media have teamed up to buy the film rights to the Broadway musical JEKYLL AND HYDE. The musical, with a book and lyrics by Leslie Bricusse and music by Frank Wildhorn, is set to return to Broadway's Marquis Theater in Spring 2013 following a 25-week National Tour.
