Principal Dancer Kaori Nakamura Will Retire From Pacific Northwest Ballet at End of Season

Pacific Northwest Ballet Artistic Director Peter Boal has announced that after a 17-year career with the Company, principal dancer Kaori Nakamura will retire from performing at the end of PNB's 2013-2014 season. Ms. Nakamura joined PNB as a soloist in 1997 and was promoted to principal in 1998. Following her retirement, Ms. Nakamura will be joining the faculty of PNB School.

Recently launched by Cafe Carlyle, the Late Night Series expands the storied New York venue's entertainment offerings while making the signature Carlyle experience-exceptional artists in a singularly intimate and elegant setting-more accessible. InThe New York Observer, Rex Reed has hailed the Late Night Series as 'good news' and applauded it for 'bringing excitement and joy to People Who Know Things.' This spring 2014 season, American Repertory Ballet will present the premiere of Douglas Martin's Firebird, set to Stravinsky's dramatic score. At 'Behind the Music: Stravinsky's Firebird', an On Pointe Enrichment Series event, ARB Artistic Director Douglas Martin and guest lecturer Maestro Michael Pratt will discuss this ballet's music and history. 'Behind the Music' will be held today, January 10, 2014 at 5:15pm at Princeton Ballet School (301 North Harrison Street, above McCaffrey's Supermarket).

Jacob's Pillow is a National Historic Landmark, home to America's longest-running dance festival, and a recipient of the National Medal of Arts. START HERE collaborates with composer/musician Tyondai Braxton and Le Poisson Rouge to present Philippines Benefit Concert for Typhoon Haiyan on Thursday, December 19 at 8:00 PM at Le Poisson Rouge (158 Bleecker Street, NYC). The night features performances by legendary composer Philip Glass, Tyondai Braxton + Ben Vida, Prefuse 73, Satomi Matsuzaki of Deerhoof, Dan Friel of Parts & Labor, DJ Jon Santos and special guests to be announced. This one-night-only benefit concert brings aid to the Philippines in response to super typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda). All proceeds will benefit A Single Drop (ASD), a Philippines-based NGO dedicated to shaping mid- to long-term aid in water and sanitation, as well as sustainable strategies for shelter, food security and livelihood.
