It also boasts the talents of Harvey Fierstein, Jackie Hoffman, Peter Matthew Smith, Shoshana Bean, Clarke Thorell, Jenn Gambatese, Michael Longoria, Rashad Naylor, Tracy Jai Edwards, Chester Gregory II, Dick Latessa and others from the Broadway cast of HAIRSPRAY. Producer Kevin McCollum has just announced that SOMETHING ROTTEN!, a completely original new musical comedy directed and choreographed by Tony-winner Casey Nicholaw (The Book of Mormon, Aladdin), with music and lyrics by Grammy -winner Wayne Kirkpatrick and Golden Globe nominee Karey Kirkpatrick and a book by Karey Kirkpatrick and best-selling author John O'Farrell, will begin previews March 23 and officially open April 22, 2015 at Broadway's St. James Theatre (246 West 44th Street). THE BOOK OF MORMON, winner of nine Tony Awards including Best Musical, has announced a lottery ticket policy for the National Tour, which begins December 16 at the Raymond F. Kravis Center in West Palm Beach and plays a limited engagement through December 21. The show is sold out; however, in West Palm Beach the production will conduct a pre-show lottery at the box office, making a limited number of tickets available at $25 apiece. (more...)

Sundance Institute announced today the program of short films selected to screen at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival, January 22 to February 1 in Park City, Salt Lake City, Ogden and Sundance, Utah. The 2015 Short Film program is comprised of 60 short films selected from 8,061 submissions. The Festival is the centerpiece of the year-round public programs for the Institute, which also hosts 24 residency labs and grants more than $2.5 million to independent artists each year. (more...)

Gavin Creel, 2014 Best Actor in a Musical Olivier Award-winner for his performance as Elder Price in the London production of The Book of Mormon, will join the Broadway company as Elder Price on Tuesday, January 6. Creel also created the role of Elder Price on the US First National Tour. Nic Rouleau, the current Elder Price on Broadway, will play his final performance on Sunday, January 4, before joining the London company of The Book of Mormon, where he begins performances as Elder Price on Monday, February 2. Back in 1993, CANNIBAL! THE MUSICAL was a peculiar foray into low budget film by director Trey Parker that didn't really find its audience. But, after the phenomenal success of South Park people starting renting it on DVD, soon discovering the kind of quirky humor and tuneful songwriting that had become such an integral part of the animated show's success. With everyone in need of a good laugh during the holiday season, Magic Smoking Monkey Theatre has put together a revival of their 2011 production, and it's every bit as funny and welcome as their original staging, in fact, it's on an even grander scale. This is a show I highly recommend, at least if you have the kind of offbeat sense of humor that I do. (more...)

Starvox Entertainment today announced casting details for Trey Parker's Cannibal! The Musical on stage at David Mirvish's Panasonic Theatre (651 Yonge St.) from Feb. 10 to Mar. 8, 2015. The highly anticipated new production tells the hilarious, and (mostly) true story of Alferd Packer, the only person ever convicted of cannibalism in America. Based on Parker's fan-favourite film of the same name, Cannibal! The Musical will premiere a brand new production featuring new songs, new jokes, and an all-Canadian cast led by Liam Tobin as Packer (Shrek the Musical, MTC's Next to Normal) and Elicia MacKenzie (The Sound of Music; winner of CBC's How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria?) as Polly Pry, Packer's unexpected love interest.
