This contemporary comedy tells the story of Jordan, a young Jewish gay man. Life is a whirlwind of fun with his cohort of best girl friends at his side, but as singles nights slowly turn into bachelorette parties, Jordan finds himself yearning for his own significant other. Jordan's grandmother, Helene, is also at a personal crossroads, navigating her life journey now nearing closure. Their tender relationship provides each with solace and support, but it's Jordan who must figure out his next steps.

Issue driven theater can too often be, well, bad theater: haranguing, simplistic, didactic, predictable. Thankfully, FRIENDS WITH GUNS avoids those pitfalls. Playwright Stephanie Alison Walker, a frequent finalist in a handful of prestigious competitions, has written a contemporary piece from a feminist point of view which doesn't take sides. If there is a message here, it is that we need to commit to listening to one another, especially if we vehemently disagree.

Penobscot Theatre Company will produce Shear Madness by Paul Portner to cap its 44th Season, and discounted tickets are now on sale to subscribers alone. Performances will run June 14-July 8 at the Bangor Opera House. Penobscot Theatre Company subscribers, including half-season, snowbird, and FlexPass subscribers, receive $5 off the regular price of $38 per adult. 'A bargain!' exclaimed Executive Director Mary Budd. 'Especially when you break it down to cost per laugh.'

Stage Door Players to Present THE 39 STEPS

Continuing their 42nd Season, STAGE DOOR PLAYERS brings you the madcap comedy The 39 Steps by Patrick Barlow and John Buchan, directed by George Contini, featuring Jacob York (full cast below).
