The Oregon Shakespeare Festival will open the world premiere production of Naomi Wallace's The Liquid Plain tonight, July 6 at 8:00 p.m. in the Thomas Theatre. The play is directed by Kwame Kwei-Armah, artistic director at Center Stage in Baltimore, Maryland.

On Wednesday, July 10, 2013 President Obama will award the 2012 National Medal of Arts and National Humanities Medal in the East Room. The First Lady will also attend. Among this year's honorees for the 2012 National Medal of Arts are opera star Renee Fleming, screenwriter and playwright Tony Kushner and director and producer George Lucas. Sundance Institute and the LUMA Foundation today announced that the two organizations will collaborate to host the Sundance Institute | LUMA Foundation Theatre Directors Retreat at Domaine de l'Armelliere, July 29 - August 9, in Arles, France. Under the supervision of Philip Himberg, Artistic Director of the Sundance Institute Theatre Program, Producing Director Christopher Hibma and Program Associate Anne Kauffman, the Retreat will be the first theatre director-centered residency at the Institute.

Theatre Communications Group (TCG) has announced the publication of Love and Information by Caryl Churchill, the Obie Award-winning author of Cloud 9 and Top Girls. Declared the 'greatest living English playwright' by Tony Kushner, Caryl Churchill premiered her newest play at London's Royal Court Theatre in fall 2012. Love and Information will receive its U.S. premiere at New York Theatre Workshop in the 2013-2014 season.

On Saturday night, BEHOLD: A Gala Performance, honoring 50 years of the Guthrie, took place on the theater's Wurtele Thrust Stage before a packed house. Naomi Goldberg Haas is a dancer, master teacher, choreographer and director of DVP. She is the creator of Variable Pop Expressive Dance Method and Movement Speaks - a Community Collaborative Dance Program. Highlights from her work in theater, opera and film include collaborations with The Klezmatics, composer Michael Nyman, playwright Tony Kushner, directors Brian Kulick and Oskar Eustis and Disney animation. Her work with the Silesian Dance Theater and persons with disabilities was presented in 2010 at the International Contemporary Dance Festival in Poland and in 2011 at Chutzpah Festival in Vancouver, B.C. Recent projects include Golem with the Czech American Marionette Theater for the 50th anniversary of La Mama etc. She formerly danced with Pacific Northwest Ballet and holds an MFA from Tisch Dance at NYU. She has taught dance at Cal State, Long Beach and Loyola Marymount University and currently teaches at NYU, the Harkness Dance Center at the 92 Y and in DVP's programs.
