Houston Non-profits, TUTS & The River Merge for Special-Needs Arts Education

With a common goal - to expand arts access to children of all abilities - The River Performing and Visual Arts Center (The River), on April 1, 2010 merged with Theatre Under The Stars (TUTS), creating a unique, barrier free, arts education model for non-profit musical theatre performing arts organizations.. The merger of the two highly revered 'Houston-grown' non-profit organizations expands TUTS' education division (TUTS Education) into the city's special-needs community through the strong brand and expertise of The River. The merger benefits The River through reduced administrative cost and direct exposure to TUTS professionals and programs.

Actress Lynn Redgrave has passed away at the age of 67 according to her publicist, Rick Miramontez. Redgrave, who had battled breast cancer, died Sunday night in her apartment at the age of 67.

Halsted, raises the curtain at 7:30p.m. on Monday, May 3rd, 2010 in honor of Michael Cullen, owner of the Mercury Theater and Cullen's Bar and Grill, and a thirty five-year veteran producer and pioneer in the development of Chicagoland theater as it is known today. Recently suffering from a stroke, Mr. Cullen requires extensive therapy treatments.

'Stepping Out' Tap Dancing Comedy At The Waterfront

Directed by Cameron Murray, 'Stepping Out' features a cast of some of Key West's best comedic actors. The show opens on May 6 and runs until May 29th (Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays) with a curtain time of 8:30 pm. The production sponsor is WKWM, 91.5 FM with the Platinum season sponsors of El Meson de Pepe, Comcast and Digital Island Media. Opening night will include a catered post performance party held in the sculpture garden in front of the theater.
Astaire Awards Honors Kenny Ortega with Douglas Watt Lifetime Achievement Prize

Kenny Ortega will be awarded the Douglas Watt Lifetime Achievement Award on June 7th when the Fred and Adele Astaire Awards are presented in a ceremony at the Gerald Lynch Theatre at John Jay College. The ceremony will also include performances by Robin Cofer and Ronald K. Brown's Evidence Dance Company, there will also be a spercial tribute to Ortega.

Actress/ singer Michele Lee will appear in S.T.A.G.E. benefit's Original Cast on May 1 at the Luckman Theatre. Star of stage, screen and TV, Lee starred on Broadway with Robert Morse in How to Succeed in Businees Without Really Trying (1961-65) and then repeated the role of Rosemary on film in 1967, Bravo Giovanni in 1962, Seesaw in 1973, winning a Drama Desk Award as Best Actress and a Tony nomination as Best Actress in a Musical and in Charles Busch's comedy The Tale of the Allergist's Wife (2000-2002), receiving a Tony nomination as Best Featured Actress in a Play.
