Producing Artistic Director, Elizabeth Flemming, and Out of the Box Theatrics, Inc., a New York based non-profit theatre company, is pleased to announce it's inaugural production of You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown. Charles Schulz's beloved comic comes to life in Clark Gesner's classic 1967 musical comedy. This fresh adaptation features additional music and lyrics by Andrew Lippa and updated book by Michael Mayer. With iconic characters, a witty and tuneful score and and intelligent satirical dialogue, this is the perfect musical for any age. OOTB will partner with the Parks and Recreation Department of New York City and produce 2 free performances at the Frederick Douglass Playground, W. 101 and Amsterdam on Saturday, October 8 and 15 at 5:30pm. The fifty artists were selected through a competitive nomination process for the quality of their artistic work and their cultural contributions to the community. Ballet Hispanico, recognized as the nation's premier Latino dance organization since 1970, will perform a dynamic trio of works at SummerStage at Central Park on Wednesday, July 16 at 8pm. The program for the evening will include Artistic Director Eduardo Vilaro's Asuka, a special piece celebrating the life and music of Celia Cruz on the anniversary of her 2003 passing. Ms. Cruz last performed in Central Park's SummerStage in 2002. Ballet Hispanico's pre-professional second company, BHdos, will also participate in SummerStage with a performance at St. Mary's Park in the Bronx on Friday, July 11 at 7pm. Broadway Artists Alliance, a New York City-based musical theatre training program, kicked off their 10th season with a star-studded concert as part of the Broadway at Birdland concert series on Monday night. Performers, as well as instructors and alumni sang their all-time favorite show tunes. The cast included Laura Benanti (left, by Seth Walters), Jenn Colella, Andrea Burns, David Ayers, and Heather Parcells, who were joined by BAA Alumni Liz Byrne, Emma Howard, Kyle Taylor Parker, Ruby Rakos, Emerson Steele, Bethany Tesarck, and Clay Thomson. Proceeds from this event will benefit the BAA scholarship fund, which provides $10,000 in scholarships each year. (more...)
