Outer Critics Circle, the organization of writers and commentators for media covering New York theatre announced today its award winners for the 2016-17 season in 27 categories.

It's a happy day in Punxsutawney! Yesterday, the cast and groundhog of Groundhog Day celebrated their 7 Tony Award nominations outside of the August Wilson Theatre with cake. BroadwayWorld was there and brings you photos from the celebration below!

In 1957, Meredith Willson wagered he could get Broadway audiences to cheer for THE MUSIC MAN's serial swindler who cheats nice people out of their hard-earned money and harasses the leading lady on the street and at her workplace while lying his way into her arms. Fortunately for him, the handsome and charming Robert Preston seduced audiences as well as Professor Harold Hill seduced early 20th Century Iowans.

NY's SoHo Playhouse will extend the Off-Broadway debut of YouTube sensation Katie Goodman's Broad Comedy through May. The internationally-touring riotous, ridiculous, and in-your-face all-women troupe, Broad Comedy, stars Danielle Cohn, Molly Kelleher, Tana Sirois, Carlita Victoria and Katie Goodman.

With original songs in the style of Tim Minchin and Eddie Perfect, emerging singer/songwriter Josh Belperio will make his cabaret debut at the 2017 Adelaide Cabaret Fringe Festival, in Scarred for Life, from 22 to 24 June at 7.30pm (doors open at 7pm) in the Carclew Ballroom, 11 Jeffcott St, North Adelaide.

The Outer Critics Circle, the organization of writers covering New York theatre for out-of-town newspapers, national publications and other media beyond Broadway, will welcome Danny Burstein and Jane Krakowski to announce the nominees for the 2016-17 season on Tuesday, April 25th (11AM) in the Oak Room at New York's renowned Algonquin Hotel (59 West 44th Street). Ready to get back in the action, Karl will perform at the Tuesday-Saturday evening and Sunday matinee performances of Groundhog Day this week.

Masterworks Broadway and Broadway Records have announced the release of Groundhog Day The Musical - Original Broadway Cast Recording. Produced by Chris Nightingale, Tim Minchin, and Michael Croiter, the album is available digitally beginning today, April 21, and on CD May 12.

Producers Warner Bros. Theatre Ventures, Langley Park Productions and Neal Street Productions announced today that a new block of tickets for Roald Dahl's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory will go on sale on Monday, April 24, 2017 at 10AM for performances through Sunday, April 22, 2018. Roald Dahl's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, which is currently in performances at Broadway's Lunt-Fontanne Theatre (205 West 46th Street), officially opens Sunday, April 23, 2017.

Following a knee injury sustained at a performance of the new musical Groundhog Day on Friday, April 14, lead actor Andy Karl, who stars as Phil Connors, was physically unable to perform in the production over the weekend and returned to the show on Monday, April 17 for the production's official opening night. Andy also performed in the show on Tuesday, April 18 (last night).

The Drama League has announced the 2017 Drama League Awards Nominees for Outstanding Play, Outstanding Revival of a Play, Outstanding Musical, Outstanding Revival of a Musical, and the much-coveted Distinguished Performance Award. Scroll down for the full list of nominees!
