On October 29, 2013, on the one-year anniversary of the day that Superstorm Sandy struck New York City and the surrounding region with devastating consequences, the Museum of the City of New York will open a major photography exhibition featuring images taken by both professionals and everyday New Yorkers who captured astonishing moments - including with smartphones - during the storm and its aftermath. The exhibition, Rising Waters: Photographs of Sandy draws on work submitted by over 900 photographers, many of whom were personally and profoundly impacted by the storm.
Bookkus Publishing to Publish DREAM CASTER, the First Book in New YA Fanasy Book Series

Bookkus Publishing will release its first book on September 3, 2013. DREAM CASTER, a young adult fanasy book, by Najeev Raj Nadarajah was previously self-published and received positive reviews on Goodreads, which brought it to the attention of the start-up crowdsourcing publisher. Bookkus has revolutionized the approach to publishing, using a community of reviewers to choose which of the books submitted to its website should be published. DREAM CASTER, which was submitted to the site in March 2013, will be published in paperback and eBook in early September, after receiving 4.2 stars from the Bookkus community of readers.

The Arab arts charity behind the winner of this years New Writing South Best New Play award has announced the return of Bulbul, an evening of performances of new writing from and about the Arab world and its surrounding regions. Supported by the Arts Council England, and running for the second year, Bulbul is Sandpit Arts' playwriting competition. The winners of this year's instalment wrote in response to the theme of 'crying over the ruins' a reference to the ancient Arab poets standing at the remains of the Bedouin campsite lamenting the loss of happier times.
Fossil Plants and Marine Organisms Highlighted in New Book

'A Guide to Pennsylvanian (Carboniferous) Age Plant Fossils of Southwest Virginia' (published by Trafford Publishing) is a picture guide to fossil plants and a few fossil marine organisms found in close association with the coal measures in Southwestern Virginia. The fossils are sorted by groups and located as to coal seam horizon and geographic location. Short descriptions of each group of plant types are provided. This publication has been designed with the amateur (rock hound) in mind as well as a virtual guide for the more advanced collectors. There are 64 plates with more than 300 illustrations, most of which are in color.
