Joel Bassin Named Producing Artistic Director of Firehouse Theatre

Firehouse Theatre has announced the appointment of Joel Bassin as Producing Artistic Director. He will take over leadership of the theatre at the end of Artistic Director Jase Smith's term in January 2015. Joel is the current Chair of Theatre at Hunter College in New York City.
Audio Fidelity to Release Renaissance's 'Scheherazade and other stories' on Hybrid SACD

Prog fans worldwide are buzzing with excitement over the forthcoming release of Renaissance's legendary Prog album 'Scheherazade and other stories' by Marshall Blonstein's Audio Fidelity on limited numbered Hybrid SACD. 1975's 'Scheherazade and other stories' is a beautifully crafted album, expertly sung and played by Renaissance. The recording is filled with lush, orchestral progressive pop-rock and considered by many music critics to be their best album. Unlike other prog-rock groups, Renaissance eschewed much of the technology in favor of acoustic instruments and orchestral arrangements. Electric guitars and synthesizers were seldom used, giving the band's music more of a symphonic sweep.

Firehouse Theatre Project once again brings Broadway to Richmond with a one night only performance by Richmond Theatre Critics Circle (RTCC) Award winner Andrea Rivette, Sunday, February 9th at 8pm. Featuring RTCC Award winner - and her costar from Cadence Theatre's Next to Normal - Terence Sullivan, the evening will include hits Cabaret, I Dreamed a Dream, Gimme Gimme, I Miss the Mountains, Someone Like You and more Broadway favorites. Cadence Theatre Company, in partnership with Virginia Repertory Theatre, closes its 2012/13 Season with the emotionally packed Broadway rock-musical Next to Normal. Performances will begin at the Sara Belle and Neil November Theatre, Marjorie Arenstein Stage on Thursday, April 25, 2013 and run for four weeks only through Saturday, May 18, 2013. Winner of three 2009 Tony Awards and the 2010 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, Next to Normal examines the powerful story of Diana, a suburban housewife suffering with bipolar disorder, and the effects of that illness on her family. This is the groundbreaking musical that leaves audiences astounded and uplifted at the difference that understanding, hope, and encouragement makes in our lives. Cadence Theatre Company and Virginia Rep will be partnering with NAMI, The VCU Department of Psychiatry and the ReelAbilities Film Festival for this production.
