Erin Markey to Play Joe's Pub 3/15

Erin Markey has announced a return to Joe's Pub. Known for her dark wit and absurdist transformations, Markey has been likened to Kristen Wiig, Kathy Acker and Eileen Brennan. Erin weaves together an exciting bill of R&B, 90's pop and grunge, standards and original music under the direction of Ben Rimalower (Leslie Kritzer is Patti LuPone at Les Mouches) with musical direction by Tony-nominated Kenny Mellman (Kiki and Herb).

OPERA America Awards Grants to 10 Opera Companies and 4 Teams of Artists

OPERA America, the national service organization for opera, has announced that it has awarded grants to 10 opera companies and four teams of artists through two funding programs: The Opera Fund: Repertoire Development and the Robert L.B. Tobin Director-Designer Showcase. These grants support the production of new North American opera and help develop the careers of promising directors and designers, respectively.

Gotham Arts Exchange Presents WORKING WOMEN at The Joyce, 1/30-2/3

WORKING WOMEN, a program of work by female choreographers including Kate Weare, Camille A. Brown, Carolyn Dorfman, and Monica Bill Barnes, comes to The Joyce for a four performance run of new works and audience favorites from January 30 - February 3, 2013. Performances are on Wednesday at 7:30pm; Friday at 8pm; Sunday at 2pm and 7:30pm. The Friday performance will be followed by a Dance Chat. Tickets are $10-39 and are available at www.joyce.org.

Stephen Colbert, Neil Gaiman, John Lithgow, Cynthia Nixon, David Sedaris, and BD Wong, writers and performers who have all participated in previous Selected Shorts shows, each bring their own unique voice, humor, and insight to the hosting duty and honor the memory of Selected Shorts' creator and long-time host, Isaiah Sheffer, who passed away last month after a brief illness.

National Theatre Live's THE MAGISTRATE, Starring John Lithgow, Opens 1/17 in Theaters

Academy Award nominee and Tony Award winner John Lithgow takes the title role in The Magistrate, an uproarious Victorian farce directed by Olivier Award winner Timothy Sheader, also featuring Olivier Award winner Nancy Carroll. In a similar vein to the National Theatre's classic comedies She Stoops to Conquer and London Assurance, The Magistrate is sure to have audiences around the world doubled up with laughter.
