MAD to Present First American Museum Group Exhibition Showcasing Latin American Design in 'NEW TERRITORIES', Nov 2014-Feb 2015

This fall, the Museum of Arts and Design (MAD) will present the first American museum group exhibition dedicated to contemporary Latin American design. Featuring more than 75 designers, artists, craftspersons, and collectives, New Territories: Laboratories for Design, Craft and Art in Latin America will survey the innovative, cross-disciplinary collaborations and new directions in creative production that have been occurring throughout Latin America since 2000. On view from November 4, 2014 through February 22, 2015, the exhibition focuses on work emanating from a number of key cities that serve as cultural hubs for some of the most pertinent new ideas about art, design, and craft. FirstWorks to Celebrate 10th Anniversary This Fall

FirstWorks, a non-profit arts organization, today announced the FirstWorks Decade Bash: a weekend of events to celebrate their 10th anniversary of connecting world-class arts with audiences of all ages throughout the region. Taking place from September 18-21, 2014, the anniversary celebration features stellar performers from Australia, Italy, Morocco, and Rhode Island – and includes the FirstWorks 10th Anniversary Gala on September 18, a free FirstWorks Urban Carnevale downtown on September 20, and in-depth arts-learning workshops in the community on September 19 and 21. The FirstWorks Decade Bash officially kicks off FirstWorks' 2014-15 season, a year of arts programming which concludes in June 2015 with the next FirstWorks Festival On The Plaza, co-presented with the City of Providence. A 2013-14 Dance Theater Workshop Commissioning Fund Commission, the Studio Series showing of Blue Room will precede the world premiere of the complete work to be shown in New York Live Arts' Theater in February 2014.
