Final Line Up for FirstWorks Urban Carnevale 9/20

FirstWorks and the City of Providence announce the final line-up of artists from across the globe for the FirstWorks Urban Carnevale. The Urban Carnevale is a celebratory evening of music, spectacle, art, and food capping four days of activities celebrating FirstWorks 10th Anniversary. The free public celebration brings the world to Providence with awe-inspiring performances from Australia, Italy, Morocco, Mali, and Rhode Island on Saturday, September 20, 2014, starting at 5:00 PM in the Providence Rink and surrounding parks, Kennedy Plaza, downtown Providence. While construction continues and St. Ann's works to raise the final $2 million of its $30 million capital campaign, the organization will present a stellar final season in its temporary home at 29 Jay Street in DUMBO. It kicks off this October when TR Warszawa and director Grzegorz Jarzyna return for the American Premiere of their internationally acclaimed production of Sarah Kane's 4:48 Psychosis, which St. Ann's Founder / Artistic Director Susan Feldman has wanted to bring to New York since she first saw it in February 2004 -- the same year St. Ann's presented the American Premiere of the original Royal Court production of Kane's play. St. Ann's Warehouse also announced the following season highlights today: Emma Rice and Kneehigh, The Wooster Group, the Slovenian choral group Carmina Slovenica, and The Tiger Lillies. (more...)

MAD to Present First American Museum Group Exhibition Showcasing Latin American Design in 'NEW TERRITORIES', Nov 2014-Feb 2015

This fall, the Museum of Arts and Design (MAD) will present the first American museum group exhibition dedicated to contemporary Latin American design. Featuring more than 75 designers, artists, craftspersons, and collectives, New Territories: Laboratories for Design, Craft and Art in Latin America will survey the innovative, cross-disciplinary collaborations and new directions in creative production that have been occurring throughout Latin America since 2000. On view from November 4, 2014 through February 22, 2015, the exhibition focuses on work emanating from a number of key cities that serve as cultural hubs for some of the most pertinent new ideas about art, design, and craft. FirstWorks to Celebrate 10th Anniversary This Fall

FirstWorks, a non-profit arts organization, today announced the FirstWorks Decade Bash: a weekend of events to celebrate their 10th anniversary of connecting world-class arts with audiences of all ages throughout the region. Taking place from September 18-21, 2014, the anniversary celebration features stellar performers from Australia, Italy, Morocco, and Rhode Island – and includes the FirstWorks 10th Anniversary Gala on September 18, a free FirstWorks Urban Carnevale downtown on September 20, and in-depth arts-learning workshops in the community on September 19 and 21. The FirstWorks Decade Bash officially kicks off FirstWorks' 2014-15 season, a year of arts programming which concludes in June 2015 with the next FirstWorks Festival On The Plaza, co-presented with the City of Providence.
