John Pizzarelli once again expertly switches (musical) hats at Cafe Carlyle with his new concert of bossa nova music. The evening is titled "Strictly Bossa Nova" and it features Daniel Jobim, grandson of the seminal Antonio Carlos Jobim and an ensemble of Brazilian musicians.

54 Below has presented the phenomenally entertaining Fyvush Finkel in a show that is a musical celebration of the 91 year old's long career. The Amanda McBroom Project, conceived and directed by Eric Michael Gillett and Arthur Masella, with musical direction by Jeff Cubeta is playing at The Laurie Beechman Theatre for 3 nights only, March 14th, 15th & 17th. Starring in the production are, Karen Akers, Aisha de Haas, Terese Genecco, Mandy Gonzalez, Carolyn Montgomery-Forant and Kt Sullivan. Also appearing are Alison Grace Bradbury, Leah Jennings, Eva Kantor, Lauren Stanford, Erin Wegner Brooks and Melanie Vaughan. In her 2nd of four shows at the Metropolitan Room, Karen Wyman continues her return to the singing stage after a 25 year absence. In this performance Kenny Ascher noted pianist/composer/arranger was at the keyboard subbing for her musical director John Oddo. Her new show, "The Second Time Around", also features Jay Leonhart on bass, and Eddie Caccabale on drums. Dennis Deal is her stage director. Her next shows are March 19th and 26th at 7 PM. Nearly six decades into her career, Academy Award-winning singer and actress Shirley Jones makes her Cafe Carlyle debut with a two-week run of An Evening with Shirley Jones, continuing through March 15. Actor-composer Ron Abel (Happily Divorced, I Love Lucy's 50th Anniversary Special) accompanies her for performances March 11-15. She'll perform the songs of Rogers, Hammerstein and Hart. Her son, Patrick Cassidy, visited her at last night's show and you can check out photos below!

The combination of fine dining and wonderful music continues at the world famous Le Cirque's Musical Mondays. This week it was Australian Jazz Pianist Matt Baker and his trio along with New York's own award winning vocalist Marissa Mulder. Matt Baker tied 5th place in the 2003 Montreux International Solo Jazz Piano competition and was a semi-finalist in 2004 and 2005. The Montreux Jazz Festival also engaged The Matt Baker Trio as their exclusive in-house band 2 years straight. Marissa Mulder has recently received the Julie Wilson Award at the Mabel Mercer Cabaret Convention and is a favorite of New York audiences.

BWW Reviews: MAUDE MAGGART is a Delightfully Dreamy Enchantress at Café Carlyle

This past Tuesday evening Maude Maggart, a celebrated young veteran of the cabaret scene, started her debut run at the Cafe Carlyle (which ends tonight with shows at 8:45 pm and 10:45 pm) and her new show certainly didn't disappoint, at least not in the singing department. Throughout a 16-song set, this attractive and willowy brunette from a performing family that now spans three generations was a delightfully dreamy enchantress conveying retro-romantic songs she delivered with the ethereal mezzo soprano style of an early Disney movie heroine of pre-Little Mermaid vintage, only one more worldly wise and seductive.

Many show business greats have been honored by the Friars Club, and have performed before an audience of entertainment savvy members at the club house on 55th street. Nicole Henry was the latest addition to that list on Feb. 10. This great tradition was continued in the Frank Sinatra Dining Room with an event produced by Friar Historian Bruce Charet and co-produced by Friar Jeff Leibowitz. Singer/pianist Loston Harris was also on the bill. Rosario Dawson hosted the evening of great dining and great music.
