Rubicon Theatre Company continues its 2010-2011 Season with MASTER HAROLD...AND THE BOYS, a powerful and compelling drama by Athol Fugard which begins previews February 9 at Rubicon's intimate 195-seat home in Ventura's Downtown Cultural District. Set in the 1950s, MASTER HAROLD is the story of an adolescent white South African torn between his relationship with the black waiters who have befriended and cared for him, and the principles instilled in him by his father, an injured war veteran who is alternately absent and abusive. Recipient of the New York Drama Desk Award and London's Evening Standard for Best Play, this gripping drama has much to say about how racism can be passed from one generation to the next. Directed by Rubicon Associate Producer BRIAN McDONALD, the production features DANIEL STEWART, ANTHONY (TONY) HANEY and CHRIS MADDOX.

Actors Theatre and director Ron May will bring Melissa James Gibson's 'This,' a bright, witty and unromantic comedy about a circle of friends backing their way into middle age to Stage West at The Herberger Theater, 222 E. Monroe, from Jan. 21 through Feb.

The theatre's most outrageous, outlandish, uproarious, comic thriller, THE 39 STEPS, explodes onto the stage at TheatreWorks, the nationally acclaimed theater of Silicon Valley. Adapted by Patrick Barlow from the book by John Buchan and the movie by Alfred Hitchcock, this hilarious spoof abounds with chicanery, espionage, dastardly murders, double-crossing secret agents, and devastatingly beautiful women. Called 'Absurdly enjoyable, gleefully theatrical...a perfect soufflé,' by The New York Times, THE 39 STEPS features four fearless actors playing dozens of roles and creating trains, planes, moors, and more, with little more than the coats on their backs in a wildly funny flight to the height of theatrical invention. Featuring Mark Anderson Phillips, Cassidy Brown, Rebecca Dines, and Dan Hiatt, with TheatreWorks Founding Artistic Director Robert Kelley at the helm, THE 39 STEPS plays January 19-February 13 at the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts. Jane Austen's Emma - A Musical Romantic Comedy, with book, music and lyrics by Tony Award nominee Paul Gordon and direction by Tony Award nominee Jeff Calhoun, will run in the Old Globe Theatre Jan. 15 - Feb. 27. Preview performances run Jan. 15 - Jan. 22. Opening night is Jan. 23 at 7:00 p.m.
