American Nobel Laureates Honored at Theodore Roosevelt Park

New inscriptions to the nation's only Nobel Monument were unveiled on Thursday, September 27, by Parks & Recreation Commissioner Veronica White, Ambassador of Sweden to the U.S. Jonas Hafstrom, Ambassador of Norway to the U.S. Wegger Chr. Strommen, Commissioner of the New York City Commission for the United Nations, Consular Corps and Protocol Marjorie Tiven, and Council Member Gale Brewer.

AdA (Author directing Author)-an evening comprised of new one act plays by American playwright Neil LaBute and Italian playwright Marco Calvani, in which each playwright will direct the other's work-will be presented by La MaMa at the Ellen Stewart Theatre (66 E. 4 St.) in Manhattan, with preview performances starting tonight, September 28 prior to an official press opening Sunday, September 30. The celebrated stage and film actor Larry Pine stars in Mr. LaBute's play LOVELY HEAD, directed by Mr. Calvani. The Oscar winning actress and four-time Tony nominee Estelle Parsons stars in Mr. Calvani's play THINGS OF THIS WORLD directed by Mr. LaBute.

Catherine Filloux's New Play LUZ Debuts at La MaMa, Now thru 10/14

LUZ-a new play by Catherine Filloux (DOG AND WOLF, LEMKIN'S HOUSE)-will be given its world-premiere production this fall, with previews beginning tonight, September 28 prior to an official press opening October 4 at La MaMa's First Floor Theatre (74A E. 4 St.) in Manhattan. LUZ is a Watson Arts Project, which presents original theater with a particular emphasis on women. LUZ is scheduled to run through October 14.

The French Institute Alliance Francaise (FIAF), New York's premiere French cultural center, and the Abrons Arts Center, present the American premiere of Love's End, from writer and director Pascal Rambert, as part of the 2012 Crossing the Line festival. This unraveling of a broken relationship features Kate Moran, currently a featured performer in Einstein on the Beach, and Obie Award-winner Jim Fletcher, best known for his work in Elevator Repair Service's Gatz and Richard Maxwell's New York City Players.

Nimbus Dance Works's 9th season marks the company's most extensive year of performances and programs to date. Performance highlights include the company's debut at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC), Centenary College, the Major Artist Series at The Theater at Raritan Valley, Flushing Town Hall, and the Jersey City Artists Studio Tour. Mary-Arrchie launches right into its 27th season with Sam Shepard's surreal Geography of a Horse Dreamer this month, followed by a Mary-Arrchie re-imagining of The Glass Menagerie in November. Then we kick off 2013 with Austin Pendleton's riveting Uncle Bob in February 2013 and finish up with a relentless experimental staging of The Brig by Kenneth H. Brown in April and the Silver Anniversary of Abbie Hoffman Died for Our Sins Theatre Festival in August 2013.

Jean-Rene Toussaint is a French-born director, actor, and voice teacher. He is the creator of a distinct school of vocal training for performing artists and therapists - a technique he has dubbed Stemwerk in Dutch - and is the founder and head of a training center in Rotterdam in the Netherlands and in Avanos-Cappadocie in Turkey. This Fall, Toussaint will present 3 workshops in New York City.

The Watermill Center held its annual summer benefit on Saturday, July 28th. Despite a downpour of rain, the spectacular event went on as planned with performance art and installations. Watermill International Summer Program Participants from over 25 countries created eight acres of installations and performances throughout the grounds of Watermill Center. The funds raised will support The Watermill Center's International Summer Program and year round Artist Residency Program, providing a unique environment for young and emerging artists to explore and develop their work.
