Last night, July 2, was the Bucks County Playhouse re-opening and ribbon cutting ceremony, as well as the first performance of Rodgers & Hammerstein's A Grand Night for Singing. The first production of the Bucks County Playhouse (BCP) 2012 summer season, A Grand Night for Singing will run through Sunday, July 29th. The ribbon-cutting ceremony took place 73 years and a day after The Playhouse first opened in 1939. Special guests included Mayor Laurence Keller (New Hope), Chris Hart (son of Moss Hart), Pennsylvania Lieutenant Governor Cawley, Congressman Michael Fitzpatrick (U.S. Representative for Pennsylvania's 8th congressional district), and Will Hammerstein (Grandson of Oscar Hammerstein II). Westport Country Playhouse stages the National Book Award-winning memoir, "The Year of Magical Thinking" by Joan Didion, now through June 30, featuring noted actress Maureen Anderman as Didion. Directed by Nicholas Martin, the play is based on the author's actual experience rebuilding her life during the year after her spouse's death and her capacity to emerge strengthened from even the most shattering of life's trials. The Bucks County Playhouse (BCP) in New Hope, Pennsylvania, has announced the extension of its first production of the summer, Rodgers & Hammerstein's A Grand Night for Singing. Performances begin Monday, July 2 at 8:00 p.m. and will now run an additional week, through Sunday, July 29.

Joan Didion will be a guest at a Westport Country Playhouse Sunday Symposium today, June 17, following the 3 p.m. matinee performance of Ms. Didion's play, "The Year of Magical Thinking," based on her 2005 National Book Award-winning memoir. She will converse on the Playhouse stage with David Kennedy, Playhouse associate artistic director. Following the symposium, Ms. Didion will sign copies of her books which will be available for purchase.
