CHICAGO – Following its highly praised Unique Voices triple bill, The Joffrey Ballet closes its 2014-2015season celebrating 20 years in Chicago with “New Works,” a mixed repertory program featuring two Joffrey/Chicago Premieres -- In Creases by New York City Ballet resident choreographer and soloist Justin Peck and Liturgy by Christopher Wheeldon -- along with the U.S. premiere of Evenfall from the Joffrey's own ballet master Nicolas Blanc and the return of Incantations by Val Caniparoli. The Joffrey Ballet presents “New Works” in ten performances only April 22-May 3, 2015. Please note: The National Football League has moved its annual draft from New York to Chicago's Auditorium Theatre of Roosevelt University, and the Joffrey is pleased to accommodate the NFL and help secure this event for Chicago by agreeing to relocate this program to the Cadillac Palace Theatre, 151 W. A pack of wolves in a jungle located in India raise a little boy with his pals: a bear and a black panther. The boy's adventures include fighting a tiger, being abducted by monkeys, and returning to the human village. This wonderful tale is based on “The Jungle Book,” a collection of stories by English author Rudyard Kipling, and provides the basis for “Mowgli,” a full-length ballet performed by the Roxey Ballet. Ashley Wheater, Artistic Director of The Joffrey Ballet, announces an epic 60th Anniversary Season of Celebration in 2015-16 including three World Premieres, the North American Premiere of Sylvia by John Neumeier, the Joffrey Premiere of Christopher Wheeldon's Fool's Paradise, and the return of Frederick Ashton's lavish Cinderella. Notably, 2015 will mark the farewell season of Robert Joffrey's The Nutcracker. The Joffrey has commissioned Christopher Wheeldon, whose An American in Paris is Broadway-bound this spring, to re-envision a major new Nutcracker to receive its World Premiere here in December 2016. On the proverbial heels of its recent record-breaking engagement of Robert Joffrey's The Nutcracker, The Joffrey Ballet continues its 2014-15 season with “Unique Voices,” a winter program of three contemporary ballets including the U.S. Premiere of Tulle by Swedish choreographer Alexander Ekman, alongside the Chicago Premieres of Canadian choreographer James Kudelka's The Man in Black and Australian choreographer Stanton Welch's Maninyas. These three leading artists, all former Joffrey guest choreographers, return with work in distinctly different styles from what Chicagoans have seen before. Under the leadership of Artistic Director Ashley Wheater, The Joffrey Ballet presents “Unique Voices” in ten performances only at the Auditorium Theatre of Roosevelt University, 50 E. The Claire Trevor School of the Arts (CTSA) at the University of California, Irvine is thrilled to announce that as part of our 50th anniversary season the Department of Dance will stage a revival of founding faculty member Eugene Loring's classic American ballet, Billy the Kid. The work will be featured as part of Dance Visions, an annual constellation of faculty works which runs from February 11 - 15, 2015 in the Claire Trevor Theatre. The program will also include choreography by outstanding current faculty members Tong Wang, Shaun Boyle, and Donald McKayle. (more...)

Fourteen of the troupe's 35 dancers will represent the United States at the Beijing Dance Academy's 60th Anniversary gala performance. The festivities will span two weeks in October, during which time the company dancers will interact with dance companies, artistic directors, choreographers, and dance students from around the globe. CHICAGO (September 25, 2014) – Joffrey Ballet Artistic Director Ashley Wheater and Executive Director Greg Cameron announced today that Erica Lynette Edwards, a dancer with the Joffrey since 2000 who took on such roles as The Chosen One in Nijinsky's The Rite of Spring, fourth song soloist in Antony Tudor's Dark Elegies and the Fairy Godmother in Frederick Ashton's Cinderella, will retire following the engagement of Robert Joffrey's The Nutcracker (set to run at the Auditorium Theatre, December 5-28) to become the company's new Director of Community Engagement.
