Philly's Broadway dreams came true for the third consecutive summer when The Broadway Dreams Foundation (BDF) partnered with The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts to present their Summer Performing Arts Intensive August 1 through Sunday, August 7, 2011. Acclaimed theatrical director and producer Richard Jay-Alexander and a roster of Broadway veterans worked with aspiring young performers from the Philadelphia area throughout the week in preparation for 'True Colors,' a one of a kind Broadway concert open to the public. Melissa Errico's 'Legrand Affair' was today confirmed for October 18th release on Ghostlight Records. 'Legrand Affair' is a collection of songs written by Michel Legrand, performed by Errico with a 100-piece symphony orchestra in Brussels, and produced by Phil Ramone.

John Doyle's latest project, TEN CENTS A DANCE, will play August 11-28 at the Williamstown Theatre Festival. TEN CENTS A DANCE, conceived and directed by John Doyle, features music by Richard Rodgers and lyrics by Lorenz Hart.

For awhile now, we have been receiving press materials and hearing about The Broadway Dreams Foundation (BDF), but never witnessed the group first-hand. Well, that all changed this past Saturday night, in Philadelphia, when we decided to go to the Kimmel Center and see the 2011 Summer-Intensive weekend showcase, this year titled TRUE COLORS. I can honestly say that our jaws dropped. Directed and hosted by the newest addition to their impressive faculty line-up, Richard Jay-Alexander, the evening was like watching a skillfull PLAYLIST of Broadway 'gold' and 'showstoppers.' Two ACTS worth!

On July 6th Donny and Marie took Toronto by storm with their revamped Vegas show Donny and Marie Live! The pair tore up the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts with hits both old and new, as well as memorable Broadway tunes, pop songs and good old fashioned banter. BWW was on hand opening night to report on all the excitement that followed their Toronto debut.

Toronto certainly has its share of 'headliners' this summer. Just this week, Hugh Jackman opened his one-man show at The Princess of Wales Theatre and Donny & Marie opened their two-week stint at the Four Seasons Performing Arts Centre, which is beautiful new venue that houses opera and ballets and has five tiers. Later this summer, Colm Wilkinson will be playing the same venue, in concert.

At 10:32 pm last Friday night, the news began to leak. Cell phones began buzzing backstage across the Great White Way and during the curtain calls of some shows like Priscilla Queen of the Desert and The Normal Heart, cast members shared the historic news with exuberant audiences: the New York State Senate had voted 33 to 29 in favor of marriage equality. New York had just become the sixth state in the nation to legalize gay marriage.
