Folger Theatre Presents THE CONFERENCE OF THE BIRDS, Beginning 10/23

The Folger Theatre continues its 2012/13 season with the Washington premiere of The Conference of the Birds, a theatrical adventure based on the poignant 12th-century Persian fable by Farid Uddi Attar about the search for the divine and the quest for truth. Beginning performances on October 23, the production is directed by two-time Helen Hayes Award-winner Aaron Posner (Cyrano, Macbeth at Folger) and will feature original music composed and performed by renowned musician and Helen Hayes Award-winner Tom Teasley.

OperaUpClose Presents New English Version of LA BOHEME at Charing Cross Theatre, Oct 30-Jan 5

The second production in Charing Cross Theatre's second season will be the Olivier Award-winning OperaUpClose production of LA BOHEME directed by Robin Norton-Hale in a new English version by Robin Norton-Hale, with musical direction and piano accompaniment by Elspeth Wilkes.

On Sunday, September 23rd, there will be an invitation only industry reading of Susan Ferrara's new play BUZZ at The Atlantic Theater Stage 2. The cast will include Sam McMurray (A Soldier's Play, Raising Arizona), Anatol Yusef (Richard III, Boardwalk Empire), Marcia DeBonis (Fran's Bed, 13 Going on 30), Vince Gatton (Drama Desk Nominee-Candy & Dorothy), Tom Riis Farrell (Coram Boy), Julie Ann Emery (Hitch), John Preston (As You Like It), Zack Calhoon (Hamlet), and Lori Prince (Lyric is Waiting) as Buzz.

I HATE F*CKING MEXICANS Makes U.S. Premiere at The Flea, 10/9

The Flea Theater announces the U.S. Premiere of I HATE f**kING MEXICANS by Luis Enrique Gutierrez Ortiz Monasterio "the enfant terrible of contemporary Mexican theater." Translated by Debbie Saivetz, Ana Graham, and Danya Taymor and directed by Ms. Taymor, a Flea Resident Director; the production will feature members of The Bats and The Riot Group's Adriano Shapman. Previews begin October 9, with opening night slated for October 18 at 9pm.

Casting Complete for Tricycle Theatre's RED VELVET

Simon Chandler (Bernard/Terence), Rachel Finnegan (Halina/Betty/Margaret), Natasha Gordon (Connie), Ryan Kiggell (Charles), Ferdinand Kingsley (Casmir/Henry), Charlotte Lucas (Ellen), and Eugene O'Hare (Pierre) join the previously announced Adrian Lester (Ira Aldridge) to complete the cast for Red Velvet. Written by Lolita Chakrabarti, and directed by the Tricycle's Artistic Director, Indhu Rubasingham, Red Velvet runs from 11 October - 24 November, with press night on 16 October.

Jermyn Street Theatre presents BOY MEETS BOY, a musical comedy with Music and Lyrics by Bill Solly and Book by Bill Solly and Donald Ward. The show will be directed by Gene David Kirk with musical director Stefan Bednarczyk, choreographer Lee Proud, designer Cherry Truluck and lighting designer Phil Hewitt. BOY MEETS BOY will play 21st November to 20th December with Press Night set for Tuesday, 27 November 2012 at 7.30pm.

Throughout 1936, the world's press and newsreels are abuzz with stories about the World's Most Eligible Bachelor; His Majesty King Edward VIII - By the Grace of God, King, Defender of the Faith, Emperor of India, Titular Ruler of one quarter of the world, the King-Emperor is the most eligible man of his day. Dashingly handsome, he is linked romantically to many; his final choice precipitates a constitutional crisis. Mrs Wallis Warfield Simpson, an American divorcee, succeeds where all others have failed. While the United States reels from the Great Depression, Continental Europe is shadowed by the menace of Hitler and the National Socialist party as the storm clouds gather for the maelstrom to come. Meanwhile, society London exists in the twilight of empire, a hedonistic ballroom where party-goers dance away the last years of peace.

Put together by John Miller and Peter Brooks, it is a night of upbeat 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s tunes, linked by scenes about Tina Turner's rise to fame, from her discovery by Ike Turner to eventual relationship with him and up until her glitzy solo success.

Andrew Keates Departs Landor Theatre

Award winning director, Andrew Keates will be departing Clapham's Landor Theatre, leaving the post of their theatre manager and artistic consultant. He will be developing newly formed and innovative theatre production company Arion Productions Ltd as its artistic director and founder as well as directing upcoming productions of Martin Sherman's ground-breaking play Passing By at the Finborough Theatre this September and returning to the Landor as a director for the world premiere of A Winter's Tale by Howard Goodall and Nick Stimson and developed by Keates in November 2012.

Founded in 1979 by its artistic director Jeffrey Horowitz, Theatre for a New Audience is a modern classical theatre that produces Shakespeare alongside other major authors in a dialogue that spans centuries. Its 33rd season, the last before moving to its first home adjacent to BAM in the new Downtown Brooklyn Cultural District, features boldly diverse works from William Shakespeare, Franz Kafka in a theatrical adaptation by Colin Teevan, Samuel Beckett and Wallace Shawn. In a co-production with The Public Theater, Mr. Shawn's plays will be part of The Wallace Shaw-Andre Gregory Project.

Austin Pendleton Directs Boston Midsummer Opera's DON PASQUALE, Now thru 7/29

For its seventh season Boston Midsummer Opera (BMO) presents the comic piece, Donizetti's Don Pasquale, playing at the Tsai Performance Center at Boston University for three performances only, tonight, July 25, 27, and 29. Obie Award winner/Tony Award nominee Austin Pendleton directs the fully staged and costumed production. Music director and nationally acclaimed conductor Susan Davenny Wyner leads the performances, which will be performed with orchestra and sung in English. Metropolitan Opera bass Ricardo Lugo will sing the role of Don Pasquale.
