Led by Peggy Shaw and Lois Weaver, New York-based duo Split Britches has transformed the queer art scene over the last thirty years with satirical gender-bending performances. Having challenged convention at every stage of their careers, Split Britches are now set to disrupt the way we think about getting old, as they present a series of workshops and performances across the country from  11 March - 16 April, and prepare to launch a Public Service Announcement via YouTube on sexually transmitted diseases within the ageing population. Dixon Place's commission tiger tiger (on the nature of violence) written and directed by playwright Jessica Almasy, will have its world premiere on Friday, November 6th at 7:30 PM.  The music is composed by Dan Veksler in collaboration with Ms. Almasy. tiger tiger (on the nature of violence) will play six performances only - November 6th, 7th, 13th, 14th, 20th, and 21st at 7:30PM, at Dixon Place (161A Chrystie Street). On February 12, 1915, the Abrons Arts Center's Henry Street Settlement Playhouse opened its doors on the Lower East Side. Since that day, it has remained a vital cultural resource, providing audiences with artistically bold work while offering artists opportunities to dynamically grow. Since becoming Abrons Director in 2006, Jay Wegman has done much more than maintain 'one of the last standing locations for avant-garde performance downtown' (The New York Times, 2009). He has created an arts venue that is unique on the city's cultural landscape, presenting an international mix of cutting-edge performing and visual artists, both established and emerging, from across the country and around the world, as well as from New York City.
