Dixon Place's new commission THE FLATIRON HEX, starring Award-winning puppeteer/performance & visual artist James Godwin, will have its world premiere on Friday, May 15th. Godwin's previous collaborations include Julie Taymor, David Bowie, the Muppets & even Aerosmith. A 2014 Jim Henson Award recipient, Godwin utilizes remarkable puppets, masks & mystical neo-noir visuals to tell a story set in a parallel, near-future NYC filled with ghosts, elemental spirits & evil demigods. THE FLATIRON HEX will play six performances only -- May 15th, 16th, 22th, 23th, 29th, and 30th at 7:30PM, at Dixon Place (161A Chrystie Street). (more...)

Dixon Place's new production, THE ABSOLUTE BRIGHTNESS OF LEONARD PELKEY, will begin previews Saturday, February 7th, and open on Sunday, February 22nd at 6:00 PM. Based on his best-selling novel, the show features critically acclaimed, Emmy nominated and award-winning storyteller James Lecesne, who portrays the life and characters of a Jersey Shore town where a young boy goes missing. The play is directed by Tony Speciale, with visuals by Matthew Sandager and incidental music by Duncan Sheik, some of which will be released in his new record "Legerdemain" in April 2015. THE ABSOLUTE BRIGHTNESS OF LEONARD PELKEY will run through March 28th at Dixon Place (161 Chrystie Street). Lois Weaver is co-founder (with Peggy Shaw and Deb Margolin) of Split Britches, the world's premiere lesbian theater troupe, and is well-known for her dramatis persona, Tammy WhyNot, an aging trailer trash blonde who threw away Nashville stardom for a career as a contemporary performance artist. Tammy returns to La MaMa tonight, November 6 to 23 with 'What Tammy Needs to Know about Getting Old and Having Sex,' a new performance created with elderly women in Zagreb, Croatia and NYC that illuminates the taboo subject of desire, pleasure and intimacy in old people. This show is the project for which she was awarded a 2014 Guggenheim Fellowship. (more...)

This Fall, Dixon Place will present new-works-in-progress written and performed by current Artist-in-Residence David Cale. On Thursday evenings this month -- September 4th, 11th, 18th, and 25th at 7:30pm -- Cuz I Just Got To Be Me...Free, a series of workshop performances that feature unfettered new songs, monologues and stories -- each evening a different 45-minute set -- will be performed in The Dixon Place Lounge. Dixon Place, Ellie Covan, founder and artistic director, proudly announces SUPPER AT THE SALON, a special evening of dinner and entertainment which will take place on the mainstage theater at Dixon Place on Monday, September 15th, with cocktails beginning in the lounge at 6:30 PM. The evening will include performances by Stew (Passing Strange), Nancy Giles ('CBS Sunday Morning'), Broadway's Ted Keegan (Phantom of the Opera, Cyrano, Camelot), award-winning aerial troupe LAVA, and more to be announced, and will be hosted by Bindlestiff Family Cirkus founder, Keith Nelson. Also that evening, four honorees will receive the iconic Dixon Place mini chair award for their contributions to the arts and support of Dixon Place: award winning actor-writer Peggy Shaw; The Jerome Foundation, celebrating its 50th Anniversary; Dixon Place Board member Eric Jensen, and theater supporter Yoshiko Kakuga.
