Windy City Playhouse, Chicago's newest Equity theater, announces the cast for its sophomore production, Lydia R. Diamond's award-winning Stick Fly. This wisecracking family drama is directed by Chuck Smith, director of the play's 2006 world premiere production in Chicago, fresh off his successful run of Two Trains Running at the Goodman. Smith directs a stellar cast featuring Tyrone Phillips, Celeste Cooper, Paige Collins, Michael Pogue, Kristen Magee and Phillip Edward Van Lear, reprising his role of the patriarch from the original production. Stick Fly runs May 27-July 5 at Windy City Playhouse, 3014 W. Irving Park.

The House Theatre of Chicago has announced the extension of their all-ages original play, Rose and the Rime, at the Chopin Theatre Upstairs Theatre, 1543 W. Division St., through Sunday, March 23. The play is created by Company Members Chris Matthews, Jake Minton and Artistic Director Nathan Allen, who is also the production's director, choreography by Company Member Tommy Rapley and music by Company Member Kevin O' Donnell. Performances are Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday matinees at 3 p.m. Although designed for adults, Rose and The Rime is suitable for kids six and up. The run time is 85 minutes with no intermission. Current ticket prices range from $20 to $40. The House Theatre of Chicago brings their very favorite myth to life in their signature style. The multi-talented ensemble blends music, swirling acrobatic dance, spectacle, and stage craft to spin this cautionary tale. Set in a "little town by a big lake', young Rose undertakes a brave adventure to rescue a magic coin from the icy clutches of the Rime Witch. She saves her town, but can she change her fate? The all-ages original play by Company Members Nathan Allen, Chris Mathews, and Jake Minton begins performances January 17, 2014 at The Chopin Theatre (1543 W Division St.) and will transfer to the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County in April.
