Lyric Opera's New Production of THE BARBER OF SEVILLE Opens Tomorrow

Lyric Opera of Chicago presents a brand-new production of Gioachino Rossini's crowning comedic glory, The Barber of Seville, conceived by the Tony Award-winning director Rob Ashford in both his Lyric and operatic debut. There will be 10 total performances: February 1, 3, 15, 18, 21, and 25 at 7:30pm and February 6, 9, 12, and 28 at 2:00pm.

The Playground Theater and home-grown comedic talents Lisa Linke (Second City, iO) and Jenni Lamb (Northwestern University MFA: Writing for the Screen and Stage) are pleased to announce PERIOD PIECE, a dark musical-comedy that explores the historical shame of menstruation. PERIOD PIECE will run at The Playground Theater (3209 N Halsted St, Chicago) for six consecutive Fridays starting Feb 21 at 8pm. General admission is $10. The Chicago Humanities Festival (CHF) and The Poetry Foundation partner to present James Franco and Frank Bidart, Off the Shelf, an evening of poetry, film, and discussion on Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2014 at 8 p.m. at Thorne Auditorium, Northwestern University School of Law (375 E Chicago Ave). The program will revolve around James Franco's film Herbert White, based on legendary poet Frank Bidart's 1973 poem of the same name, as well as Franco's forthcoming poetry collection, Directing Herbert White. Hubbard Street Dance Chicago Presents Four Works by Jirí Kylián This Spring

Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, under the artistic leadership of Glenn Edgerton, will present its first-ever mixed repertory program devoted to the work of a single choreographer during the Spring Series, March 13-16, 2014. This engagement's four works by Sarabande (1990), for an all-male ensemble and set to Bach's second partita for solo violin with electronically manipulated live vocals; and Falling Angels (1989), for a cast of eight women and set to part one of Steve Reich's phased-percussion composition, Drumming, to be performed live by Third Coast Percussion, Ensemble- in-Residence at the University of Notre Dame's DeBartolo Performing Arts Center.
