SUNDAY IN THE WEST END WITH SONDHEIM Student Competition Set for Garrick Theatre, 18 May

The passion, complexity and pure joy of singing SONDHEIM knows no bounds for a performer, but for the 12 finalists of this year's The Stephen Sondheim Society Student Performer Of The Year Competition 2014 (SSSSPOTY), all will be revealed as they sing their hearts out competing for the title on SUNDAY 18 MAY at 3pm at the West End's GARRICK THEATRE. As if that weren't enough for them to sing in one afternoon, at SONDHEIM's request, the 12 finalists will also be singing the 12 new musical songs that are competing for The Stiles & Drewe Best New Song Prize. PAPER DOLLS Extends for Two Weeks at the Tricycle Theatre

Indhu's second production as Artistic Director, which opened last week is written by Philip Himberg, Artistic Director of Sundance Theatre, in association with Stanley Buchthal and Bob & Co, Ltd, and adapted from the award-winning documentary film by Tomer Heymann. Jenna Russell Joins Cast of THAT DAY WE SANG at MIF

Multi-award winning actress Jenna Russell will play the role of Enid. Jenna won an Olivier Award and Theatre World Award for her performance as Dot/Marie in Sunday In The Park With George in the West End and on Broadway. She was nominated for a Tony and a Drama Desk Award for the same performance. Most recently she appeared in Aykbourn's Season's Greetings at the National Theatre, and prior to that in the award winning Into the Woods at the Open Air Theatre, Regent's Park. Vincent Franklin will play the role of Tubby. Vincent has appeared in all three series of The Thick Of It on the BBC, and has also recently appeared in the TV series Doc Martin and Being Human. Vincent has also appeared in numerous stage productions and is one half of the comedy duo ‘John and Vince'. (more...)

The Kneehigh Theatre Company will close its West End production of THE UMBRELLAS OF CHERBOURG on May 21 instead of the previously announced October 1 closing. The show opened at the Gielgud Theatre on March 22. Directed by Emma Rice, with lyrics translated by Sheldon Harnick, designs by Lez Brotherston, lighting by Malcolm Rippeth, sound by Simon Baker and musical supervision by Nigel Lilley, The Umbrellas of Cherbourg is produced in the West End by Daniel Sparrow and Mike Walsh Productions, Curve Leicester and City Lights International in association with BE MY Productions.
