The Really Useful Group, Warner Music Group & Access Industries, The Shubert Organization, and The Nederlander Organization announced today that School of Rock-The Musical, will have its World Premiere on Broadway. Previews will begin on Monday, November 2, 2015 at the Winter Garden Theatre, with an opening set for Sunday, December 6. Based on the smash hit 2003 film of the same title, School of Rock will feature music from the movie, as well as new music written byAndrew Lloyd Webber and lyricist Glenn Slater, with a book by Julian Fellowes. School of Rock-The Musical will be directed by Laurence Connor (currently represented on Broadway by Les Miserables). (more...)

Can a new musical be 'pre-Broadway' without having a New York theater booked, or without even announcing a timetable for said booking? How about a musical largely penned by a previously unknown writer, one who worked as a Pennsylvania policeman, and never formally studied music composition? Well, AMAZING GRACE is that show, and this expensive-looking, high-aiming show that's been in development since 2007, with book, music and lyrics by Christopher Smith (the book is co-written with the veteran playwright Arthur Giron) opened on Sunday night. As BroadwayWorld previously reported, FINDING NEVERLAND, with music and lyrics by Gary Barlow and Elliot Kennedy, book by James Graham, and direction by Diane Paulus, will officially fly to Broadway. According to The New York Times, 'NEVERLAND' spokesperson Rick Miramontez, has confirmed that the new musical, which opened at A.R.T. earlier this week, will settle in at a Nederlander Organization theater in March 2015. In a recent interview with Deadline, Weinstein opens up about the transfer. He told Deadline: "The reason you go out of town is to try things out. Diane and I are well aware of the things we need to do, especially in the first act. The second act is near-perfect." (more...)
