Legendary Greek composer Vangelis and the cast of the West End stage production of Chariots of Fire celebrated the arrival of the Olympic torch in the West End yesterday, Thursday 26 July 2012.

As London gets ready to welcome the world to the 2012 Olympic Games, Edward Hall's five star production of Chariots of Fire opens (3 July 2012) at the West End's Gielgud Theatre following its critically acclaimed sell-out run at Hampstead Theatre. Inspired by Colin Welland's original screenplay, award-winning playwright Mike Bartlett's new adaptation is based on the true story of Eric Liddell and Harold Abrahams' inspirational tale of hope, honour and belief. Chariots of Fire is currently booking at the Gielgud Theatre to 10 November 2012.

Almost 17,000 stadium seats go on sale today (30 May 2012) for the West End transfer of Chariots of Fire. The Hampstead Theatre has announced the world premiere of CHARIOTS OF FIRE. Award-winning playwright Mike Bartlett brings the Olympic story to the stage for the first time in a new adaptation inspired by Colin Welland's original screenplay. Directed by Hampstead Theatre's Artistic Director Edward Hall, CHARIOTS OF FIRE will be performed on a spectacular set by award-winning designer Miriam Buether, which transforms Hampstead Theatre into a stadium, making an immersive experience that evokes the 1924 Paris games. The production will also feature the legendary music of the Vangelis score with additional live music and arrangements by Tony Award-winning composer Jason Carr.

The new version of the classic subtitled Those Who Return, translated by Rebecca Lenkiewicz (An Enemy of The People, Her Naked Skin) and directed by ATC Artistic Director Bijan Sheibani (The Brothers Size, Gone Too Far!) will star Harry Lloyd as Osvald, Suzanne Burden as Mrs Alving, Paul Hickey as Pastor Manders, Natasha Broomfield as Regine and Jim Bywater as Engstrand.
