World famous ballet star, NATALIA OSIPOVA, will perform at the SYDNEY INTERNATIONAL BALLET GALA on Saturday 16 & Sunday 17 July.

The unmatched impact of Rudolf Nureyev, whose performances touched the lives of people around the world, will be celebrated on stage this September in London over five performances at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane - where Nureyev made his London debut - in a production curated by a former star of The Royal Ballet which will bring together an array of international talent both on and off stage.

Today, the Royal Opera House unveils a series of fundraising initiatives in support of the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal.    

Former Royal Ballet stars and impresarios Ivan Putrov (Ukraine) and Alina Cojocaru (Romania) today announced ‘Dance for Ukraine,’ a special benefit gala at the London Coliseum to raise funds for people in need in Ukraine.

Global superstar Natalia Osipova, Principal of the Royal Ballet, is to star in a brand new, contemporary dance production of 'CARMEN' on May 27th and 28th at London's Southbank Centre.  Multi award-winning Osipova will perform the title role in an imaginative new version of the classic tale devised by internationally renowned choreographer and director Didy Veldman.   

The opening night for MacMillan’s Romeo and Juliet, a production much loved by the audiences of Covent Garden, saw another dubious opportunity for Artistic Director Kevin O’Hare to take to the Opera House stage and announce “significant changes” to the billed cast. Cue much sighing from the near-full auditorium as it was revealed Marianela Nunez and Federico Bonelli would be stepping in for an isolating Natalia Osipova and Reece Clarke. As replacements go, it’s not bad.

Continuing the week that dance returned to the UK, the Royal Ballet favoured a contemporary focus with a mixed bill under the banner title, 21st Century Choreographers. The Marblehead School of Ballet (MSB) celebrates its annual Community Appreciation Week with special activities from Sunday, December 13 through Saturday, December 19.

This latest gala from the Royal Ballet had been planned to be performed in front of a live and appreciative audience, drinking in their first in-person, post lockdown performance. Alas, the stars did not align, but the tenacity of the Opera house team means this “all guns blazing” display is still a joy to watch online. 

English National Balleta??s Emerging Dancer marks the companya??s first live performance since lockdown and the opener to their newly curated Digital Season as a response to the current COVID-19 restrictions. The annual award sees six dancers from the most junior rank of the company perform a classical as de deux in three pairs, and historically a contemporary solo, although this year saw three first duets featuring original choreography (presumably for bubbling/distancing reasons).
