OLIVES AND BLOOD Opens 10/2 at Connecticut Repertory Theatre

On October 2, OLIVES AND BLOOD will open on the stage at Connecticut Repertory Theatre, making its regional theatre and Connecticut premiere. The production marks the culmination of a journey that playwright Michael Bradford began nearly a decade earlier. The play explores the mystery surrounding the unsolved murder of the Spanish poet-playwright, Federico Garcia Lorca. Lorca, a promising and polarizing young artist, was disappeared during the Spanish Revolution. (more...)

Ballard Institute and Museum of Puppetry to Present Fall Performance Series from September to December 2014

The Ballard Institute and Museum of Puppetry at the University of Connecticut will host its first-ever Fall Puppet Performance Series on four Saturdays from September to December 2014, featuring outstanding works for puppet theater by professional puppeteers from the Northeast. Connecticut Repertory Theatre (CRT) will open their 2014-15 season with Olives and Blood at the Nafe Katter Theatre October 2nd - 12th. Written by Michael Bradford, this new play stars Martin Sola as Juan Luis Trescante Medina, the aging fascist who claims responsibility for the murder of poet-playwright Federico Garcia Lorca, played by Nicholas Urda. More impressive than two good actors doing what they do best, however, is how Ruiz, pictured right with Kline, fits perfectly in to the mix. He has stood out in roles at CT Rep's My Fair Lady, The Music Man and Man of LaMancha as well as in Yale Rep'sAmerican Night, but really shines here. He conveys real affection for his uncle, admiration for Al and somehow manages to be engaging without getting in the way of the veterans. (more...)

Freedom Theatre's Quad-State Tour of THE ISLAND Set for UConn, 9/6-7

The Freedom Theatre, an independent cultural center located in the West Bank's Jenin refugee camp, announced through its American support group Friends of the Jenin Freedom Theatre, that it would tour four states in September with its production of Athol Fugard's award-winning play The Island. The play explores the lives of two prisoners who share a cell during South Africa's apartheid regime. The show will be performed at the University of Connecticut, Storrs, in the Nafe Katter Theatre Sept. 6 at 7 p.m., and Sept. 7 at 2 and 7 p.m. (more...)
