The season begins with King Lear by William Shakespeare. The production will coincide with the Folger Shakespeare Library's national tour of First Folio! The Book that Gave Us Shakespeare, which will bring a rare first folio to UConn's campus where it will be displayed September 1-25, 2016 in the William Benton Museum of Art. King Lear will be directed by Dale AJ Rose and play onstage in the Harriet S. Jorgensen Theatre October 6-16, 2016. (more...)

The Ballard Institute and Museum of Puppetry is pleased to host the world premiere of ECHO, a multi-media immersive spectacle combining puppets, digital projection, and original music in a re-invention of the classic Greek tale of a mountain nymph who finds the true meaning of voice. Puppet Arts MFA candidate Christopher D. Mullens has teamed up with composer Colby Joseph Herchel and a team of students from UConn's Puppet Arts Program and Digital Media and Design Department to create a dynamic world of myth and music in which the story of Echo, the nymph who could only repeat what is spoken to her, will unfold in front of and around the audience.   (more...)

The Laramie Project focuses on the aftermath of the murder of Matthew Shepard, an openly gay college student, in Laramie, Wyoming. A collaborative effort amongst members of The Tectonic Theatre Project, spearheaded by Moises Kaufman, the play explores the reactions of a small town when faced with a gruesome event that triggered worldwide media attention. Performances of The Laramie Project begin on October 8 and continue through October 18, 2015 at Connecticut Repertory Theatre's Nafe Katter Theatre. Connecticut Repertory Theatre will hold a screening of Robert Greene's award-winning documentary film Actress, starring Brandy Burre. The film centers around Burre's steps to return to acting after a hiatus to FOCUS on motherhood. Burre was named 'Best Actress of 2014' by Richard Brody of The New Yorker for her work in the film. The screening will be held on Thursday, September 24, 2015 at the von der Mehden Recital Hall, followed by a Q&A with Burre. Tickets will be available at the door and cost five dollars for student tickets and ten dollars for general admission. CRT subscribers will receive free admission. Summer is on its way out, but Connecticut theaters are heating up with some exciting offerings this fall. Theater lovers have the best of both worlds here in the Nutmeg State: Broadway is just down the road, but we never even have to leave home to see exceptional theater thanks to the bevy of professional theaters that call Connecticut home too. This season looks particularly exciting and I'll share with you what I am most looking forward to reviewing this fall.
