Many people in Toronto's arts communities, especially theatre, are still grieving the loss of TheatreBooks after the venerable bookstore closed its doors forever this July after 39 years. Now, many are lost when needing scripts or monologues for auditions. And others feel the same who just love to read about the performing arts.

When a 23-year-old first-time playwright named Michel Tremblay wrote Les Belles-soeurs in 1965, no one could have predicted how it would turn into an international sensation over the next four decades and go on to be produced in over 30 languages.

Due to popular demand, the Segal Centre has announced that a week of performances have been added to Copa de Oro's world English premiere production of Belles Soeurs: The Musical, based on the play by Michel Tremblay.

While the original play depicts each of the five decades of her life from age 30 to 70, Past Perfectgives us Albertine at 20, on a night that will irrevocably determine her fate. Opening tonight, September 26, the play runs at the Berkeley Street Theatre from September 24 to October 5.

Music theatre practitioners from around the world will gather at Sheridan College June 24-26, 2014 for Song, Stage and Screen IX an international conference of papers, talks and practical demonstrations designed to bring together leaders to discuss music theatre. To celebrate the conference theme, 'The Art of Collaboration in Musical Theatre', The Theory of Relativity by Drama Desk Award nominated writers Neil Bartram and Brian Hill will have a one-time, live performance upon the opening of the conference featuring a global virtual choir.

BELLES SŒURS: THE MUSICAL will premiere to Montreal audiences as part of the Segal Centre's 2014-2015 Season from October 19 - November 9, 2014.

Narcisse Mondoux and his long-time crush, Laurencienne Robichaud, are on stage together in this charming Quebecois play at London's Grand Theatre. This delightful two-hander stars Rod Beattie as Narcisse and Brigit Wilson as Laurencienne. Beattie, of course, is well-known for playing many parts in the Wingfield series, and Wilson has been on stage in Stratford and Blyth.

Manon, Sandra and the Virgin Mary by Michel Tremblay will be directed by John Van Burek and stars Irene Poole and Richard McMillan at Buddies in Bad Times Theatre. The show will run now through February 2, 2014.

Toronto – Alexander Neef, General Director of the Canadian Opera Company, today released details of the company's new opera commission, Hadrian, composed by internationally acclaimed Canadian-American singer, songwriter and composer Rufus Wainwright with libretto by award-winning Canadian actor, director and playwright Daniel MacIvor.
