Some college-bound students can improve results (and reduce stress) by taking the portfolio approach to college applications. The portfolio approach means including substantial, on-point, original work as a central component of a college application. This approach works well for students interested in engineering, computer science, performing arts, visual arts, creative writing, or other disciplines that produce original work. The odds of finding the right fit can be dramatically higher when a school sees an applicant's original work.
