In 1983 Phyllis Diller had to dress up in drag to sneak into a men's only Sid Caesar's Friars Roast. Last night women's champion Friar Gloria Allred resplendent in an attractive pants and gold jacket was escorted through the front door of The Monastery for that time-honored Friar privilege of being Roasted. In a darkened Frank Sinatra Dining Room an off stage voice using that classic Dean Martin intro ' And Now Direct From The Bar' announced co-hosts Bill Boggs, Bruce Charet and countless actors, singers, celebrities and friends to toast one of the most beloved entertainers in show business…..Deana Martin.

?The Emmy Award winning actor Fyvesh Finkel jokes, 'I'm 92, but looking at this audience I realize that's no big deal.'  Fyvesh was the star of Yiddish Night at the Friars Club last night, although his co-stars were his sons Elliot, Ian, and the special menu of traditional Jewish favorites prepared by the staff. 

The Friars Club established the Friars Foundation in 1977 as it's charitable arm. It's mission is to help performing arts groups create excellent innovative and affordable programs for the enrichment, education, and enjoyment of diverse audiences and participants. The Foundation also helps prepare the next generation of performers and musical artists through scholarship programs for students studying the performing arts.

Among the requirements of being a member in good standing of the Friars Club is that you commit to having a good time, laugh a lot, and have a pallet appreciative of good food & spirits. Once again Friar Randi Levine Miller produced and hosted a special evening.
