by BWW News Desk - Aug 27, 2014

Circle Theatre finishes the Main Stage season in September of 2014 with the musical thriller CARRIE THE MUSICAL, running September 4 through 20. Set today, in the small town of Chamberlain, Maine; this suspenseful musical with book by Lawrence D. Cohen (screenwriter of the classic film), Lyrics by Dean Pritchard (Fame, Footloose) and music by Michael Gore (Fame, Terms of Endearment) is based on the novel by Stephen King. CARRIE THE MUSICAL tells the story of a misfit named Carrie White. At school, she's an outcast who's bullied by the popular crowd, and virtually invisible to everyone else. BWW Reviews: Bloody Bloody Carrie White Terrorizes Studio Theatre
by Keith Tittermary - Jul 14, 2014

Not since Carrie. A phrase that has haunted creators of musicals ever since Ken Mandelbaum's famous 1991 book that looks at 40 years of Broadway musical flops. The original Broadway production in 1988 was a disaster, partly due to the writing, but more to do with original director Terry Hands' disastrous approach and minimalist concept. Closing 5 performances after the official opening night, Carrie cleaned up its blood, but not its money and went on to become one of the most famous and financial flops (although a certain Bono-tuned superhero of recent memory has surpassed that). BWW Reviews: Peggy Eason's New Cabaret Show at Don't Tell Mama is a Poignant Message of Personal Empowerment
by Stephen Hanks - Jun 14, 2014

Peggy Eason is one of those characters who seem to have been made for the New York cabaret scene. She's a bodacious woman who is ubiquitous at the local clubs, possesses a passion for singing, and bills herself as the 'Chocolate Diva,' although on stage she's more like a Red Hot Mama. Eason opened her third solo cabaret show, I'll Show Them All, at Don't Tell Mama on Monday night (she's appearing again at the club on Sunday at 7pm) with the decidedly politically incorrect titled song written especially for her by David Conforte, 'Black, Blind and Beautiful' (Hey, 'African American, Visually Challenged and Beautiful' doesn't have the same ring to it.). But there was little that was incorrect about her fast-paced and entertaining show that was often poignant and funny at the same time. (more...)
