"There's probably no frame wide enough to encompass the creative output of the pianist Vijay Iyer," The New York Times observed. His Ph.D. in cognitive science from UC Berkeley is just the start. He's been recognized as a bona fide "genius" by DownBeat magazine and was named by GQ India as one of the 50 most influential Indians. The jazz pianist is also a prolific recording artist and his quintet will play the final Jazz Club performances of The Soraya's 2018/19 season on May 10 and 11.

On Friday and Saturday, April 26–27 at 10:00 and 11:15 a.m., Carnegie Hall presents the world premiere of NOOMA, a new work co-commissioned by Carnegie Hall, Minnesota Opera, and San Francisco Opera. This new opera, composed specifically with babies in mind, uses parachutes to create an intimate world of wonder and interaction.

La MaMa will present the US Premiere of Kosovo's Qendra Multimedia in 55 SHADES OF GAY: BALKAN SPRING OF SEXUAL REVOLUTION, a contemporary burlesque story about LGBTI politics in the Balkans written by Jeton Neziraj and directed by Blerta Neziraj. Performances begin March 7, 2019 at The Ellen Stewart Theatre at La MaMa.

Mark Murphy, The Founding Executive Directorof REDCAT Will Leave The Position At The End Of The Current Season

Mark Murphy has announced his decision to leave REDCAT (Roy and Edna Disney CalArts Theater), the California Institute of the Arts' contemporary performing arts and exhibition space located in The Walt Disney Concert Hall, at the end of the 2018/2019 season, in order to focus his attention on initiating new creative programs and productions in a variety of US and international cities. Murphy has led REDCAT for more than seventeen years, starting as its founding Executive Director in 2001, before overseeing the grand opening of the facility in 2003. Edgar Miramontes, Associate Director at REDCAT, will assume additional duties of interim leadership until a permanent appointment is made.

O WESTERN WIND Concert Celebrates 50 Years Of Western Wind

The Grammy-nominated Western Wind vocal sextet will present O Western Wind… celebrating the 50th Anniversary of The Western Wind Vocal Ensemble which began in 1969.  The 50th Anniversary Gala Concert will be Saturday, March 23 at 8:00 pm at Merkin Concert Hall (129 West 67th Street, New York City). A Gala Reception at the hall will follow the concert. The event will honor the 50-year career of founding member and countertenor William Zukof, who will be stepping down from his singing role in August 2019.
