BWW Exclusive: How 4th Graders from Long Island Are Bringing Broadway to the Classroom

Disappointment has turned into opportunity for Mr. Contratti's Fourth Grade Class. When the students' trip to see The Music Man was canceled due to the Broadway shutdown and ongoing health crisis, they decided to bring Broadway to Long Island. Over the past year, the Broadway babies of Garden City Park School have conducted virtual interviews with theatre legends right from their classroom, researching their guests by listening to their music, watching them perform on Youtube and coming up with their very own burning questions.

On March 16, 2020, Seth Rudetsky and James Wesley launched “Stars In The House” in response to what they knew would be an immediate need for funds in light of the Broadway shutdown. Now, one year and over 375 episodes later, “Stars In The House” has raised over $715,000 for The Actors Fund & an additional $200,000 for other charity organizations.

Your Kids, Our Kids (Seth Rudetsky and James Wesley, Founding Directors) presented the 6th Annual VOICES FOR THE VOICELESS: Stars For Foster Kids, an event that brings together the very best performers from the American stage and screen to raise awareness about the plight of kids in foster care, particularly those aged 13 and older who are in danger of aging out of the foster care system alone, last night, Thursday, February 6th at 7pm at The Town Hall (123 West 43rd Street, NYC).

“GUEST ARTIST”, a new film written by and starring Michigan's own Jeff Daniels and directed by Timothy Busfield will be presented at Ann Arbor's Michigan Theater on Friday, November 29, 2019. Preceded by a reception at 6:00 pm for VIP ticket holders, the screening will begin at 7:30 pm. Following the screening, there will be a talkback with director, Timothy Busfield, producer, Melissa Gilbert, as well as the stars of the film, Jeff Daniels and Thomas Macias. All proceeds from the film screening with go to fund The Purple Rose Theatre's 29th season of plays.
