HAIRSPRAY will play the MUNY from August 3rd thru the 9th, it will be directed by Matt Lenz with choreography by Michele Lynch. It features a book by Mark O'Donnell and Thomas Meehan, and a score by five-time Academy Award nominee Marc Shaiman (who co-wrote the music and lyrics for the acclaimed animated musical, South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut) and lyrics by Shaiman and Scott Wittman. REVIEW: Muny Closes Their 2009 Season with an Upbeat Production of HAIRSPRAY

The Muny closes it's 2009 season with an exuberant and colorful staging of HAIRSPRAY, the musical based on film director John Waters' most mainstream feature. Even though it's been toned down ever so slightly, this production is still very enjoyable. And, the chance to hear the score performed by an orchestra makes this an especially unique experience. Baldwin, along with philanthropist and patron of the arts Iris Cantor; inventor, philanthropist, and patron of Tisch's Kanbar Institute of Film and Television Maurice Kanbar; and 'architect of American regional theater' Zelda Fichandler were honored at the gala on November 17th at the Frederick P.
