LA MIRADA THEATRE FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS & McCOY RIGBY ENTERTAINMENT are thrilled to present the West Coast Premiere of GRUMPY OLD MEN: THE MUSICAL, book by Dan Remmes, music by Neil Berg, lyrics by Nick Meglin, (Adapted from the Warner Bros. motion picture written by Mark Steven Johnson), additional orchestrations by Phil Reno, choreography by Michele Lynch, musical direction by Benet Braun and direction by Matt Lenz. GRUMPY OLD MEN: THE MUSICAL will preview on Friday, September 20, 2019 (with a press opening on Saturday, September 21 at 8pm) and runs through Sunday, October 13, 2018 at La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts, 14900 La Mirada Blvd in La Mirada.  

The students of the Shepherd University Music Department will premiere an Opera Double Feature, featuring one comedic romance and one tragic romance, just in time for Valentine's Day! Opening February 13, the Opera Double Feature will included Dido and Aeneas, directed by Dr. Robert Tudor, and La Serva Padrona, directed by Dr. Bobb Robinson. Both operas are musically directed by Dr. Erik Jones. Dido and Aeneas, a tragedy, tells the story of Dido, a queen and both her love for enemy soldier, Aeneas, and her despair when he leaves her. La Serva Padrona, a comedy, features a clever maid and manservant conspiring to trick the master of the house into marrying the maid so that she can become the wealthy mistress of the house.

City Circle Acting Company of Coralville presents the 2014 New Play Festival tonight, September 20 at 7pm. City Circle will also remount Sue Gilbert's one-woman play about pioneer midwife Annie MacFarlane on Thursday, September 18 at 7:30pm and Today, September 20 at 2pm. The Festival is sponsored by Cedar Rapids-based Heuer Publishing and celebrates emerging voices in theater.

They have had this vital role since their domestication, and since then they have become intimately ingrained in human culture, in ancient Egyptian mythology they even revered a cat goddess. The allure of the cat continues to grow in modern times, they are still very popular pets, and author Mick E. Jones shares his fascination with the species in his new book, Cat Tales: Da Real Pussy.

In "The Butterfly & The Snail" (published by Balboa Press), author Mary Sullivan Esseff's new novel, readers join Rebecca Butler and Khalil Khoury as they struggle to resolve the dilemma their chance meeting in the summer of 1964 in Salzburg, Austria, causes in their lives. Coincidentally, another celebrated romance, "The Sound of Music," is being filmed there at the same time.
