Tony Award Nominated Producer Matthew Weaver (Rock of Ages) of MediaWeaver Entertainment - a movie, TV and stage production company - has acquired the theatrical stage rights to the trailblazing musical variety television series Soul Train. Created in 1970 by visionary Don Cornelius, Soul Train famously introduced the world to generations of new music and a whole new series of dance moves and styles on a weekly basis. Weaver acquired the rights from Soul Train Holdings, LLC. Weaver is now in talks with theater and film notables to come on board as the creative team for the Broadway production. (more...)

Sheila E to Perform at Ridgefield Playhouse, 6/1

If Prince hand selects you to be in his band, chances are you're at the top of your game. Such was the case in 1978 when Prince tapped Sheila E. to record on the Purple Rain album, where she lent vocals to 'Let's Go Crazy' and 'Erotic City'. From there on out, their musical lives have often been intertwined. On her own, Sheila E's R&B and jazz-fusion roots have solidified her in the annals of rock history as a dynamic singer/songwriter, percussionist and drummer. This amazing artist will be in concert at The Ridgefield Playhouse on Sunday, June 1, at 8 p.m. performing from her songbook, which includes 'The Glamorous Life', 'A Love Bizarre' and the 'We Are the World' session. 3-Time Olympian Ed Burke Sets World Record in Special Night Session at USA Masters Track

BOSTON, March 14, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ UPDATE: Three-time Olympian *Ed Burke*, the US flagbearer at the 1984 Olympics, broke the world record for men 70-74 three times in the 16-pound weight throw with a toss of 20.93 meters/68 ft. 8 inches in a special night session at the USA Masters Indoor Track Championships in Boston. The special session, at the conclusion of the day's events, ensured safety at the track, because of Burke's distances. The throwing area was reconfigured to allow for the record throws. Burke, 74, from Los Gatos, CA, broke the existing record three times. Burke said he is 'very pleased with the result. I did it because I stayed healthy. Proper preparation played into it. Now the longest running show ever at the Dominion by a margin of nine years, the show takes its rightful place in West End history, sitting proudly in the Top 10 longest running musicals of all time.
