BWW Review: Theatre UCF's YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN Shatters Lofty ExpectationsBWW Review: Theatre UCF's YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN Shatters Lofty Expectations
by Matt Tamanini - Oct 26, 2016

Last week, I wrote an article looking at why Central Florida's collegiate theatre programs, and in particular Theatre UCF, consistently produce content at or above the level of local professional theatres. The next night I went to see UCF's production of Mel Brooks' YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN, the musical adaptation of one my favorite films. So, needless to say, as I walked into the theater, my expectations were already exceptionally high. Fortunately for me, and everyone else at the sold-out performance, this incredibly talented cast not only met those expectations, but shattered them. (more...)

by Jeffrey Ellis - Oct 25, 2016

Patrick Kramer's commanding performance as Frederick Frankenstein (that's 'FRONKENsteen' for the uninitiated) in the Center for the Arts' production of Mel Brooks' Young Frankenstein is reason enough to buy a ticket (if you're lucky enough to score one - shows are playing to capacity crowds in Murfreesboro, so make your reservations yesterday), but director Renee Robinson and musical director Stephen Burnette very adroitly surround him with such strong support that the entire ensemble of Transylvanian thespians is worth the price of admission. by Matt Tamanini - Oct 14, 2016

Lately, it seems that no matter where you turn you are assaulted with frightening news, disheartening images, and arguing politicians. It's gotten so upsetting that no one would fault you for thinking that this is the worst of all possible worlds. However, if you are tired of thinking the worst of society and your fellow man, there is no better antidote than the Orlando Philharmonic's joyous and playful production of Leonard Bernstein's light opera CANDIDE, running through Sunday, October 16th at Plaza Live Orlando. by Ellen Dostal - Sep 27, 2016

When October hits and Halloween horror movies begin to flood late night TV, you can always count on at least one station somewhere airing Mel Brooks' 1974 classic comedy YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN. But this year, the situation is a little different. With the recent passing of Gene Wilder, who stars in the title role and also co-wrote the film with Brooks, YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN has been making many more appearances than usual in tribute to Wilder's uncommon genius. As a writer and actor, the film was some of his finest work and will continue to make audiences laugh for years to come. (more...)
