Get a first look at Ken Ludwig's Lend Me A Soprano, a gender-swapped adaptation of his 1989 Broadway hit, Lend Me A Tenor, runs in the Roberts Mainstage at Olney Theatre Center February 7 - March 10, 2024.

Olney Theatre Center's Roberts Mainstage is presenting Ken Ludwig's 'Lend Me a Soprano' through March 10. This is a reimagining (by the author) of Ludwig's Tony-winning farce 'Lend Me a Tenor,' a staple of professional, community, and school theatres nationwide...which I've somehow never seen.  As the change in the title suggests, the production is gender-swapped; the male roles in the original are female in the new version and vice versa. Having not seen the original, I cannot speak to the difference in effect in the new version, but can only evaluate 'Soprano' on its own merits...and it has many merits.

What did our critic think of THE SEAFARER at Round House Theatre? Five fine actors give excellent performances in Ryan Rilette's solid production of The Seafarer through December 31.

Cutthroat capitalism and journalistic sensationalist exploitation rears its ugly head in playwright James Graham’s Ink. This superb play is a sharply and pointedly observed tale of the rise of the infamous media mogul Rupert Murdoch (Andrew Rein) as he captures control of the newspaper The Sun and becomes the controversial sensation of Fleet Street.

Round House Theatre and Olney Theatre Center continue their longstanding partnership and kick off the 2023-2024 Season with a co-production of Ink, written by James Graham. Rorschach will disrupt lunches and surprise strangers with an afternoon of KLECKSOGRAPHY*, three original short plays inspired by and performed around HYBYCOZO's sculpture “The Golden Spike.” KLECKSOGRAPHY @ Connecticut Ave Overlook that will be produced in conjunction with the Golden Triangle Neighborhood BID and Pipkin Creative.

Here There Are Blueberries opened last night, Thursday, May 11, at Shakespeare Theatre Company in D.C, following its critically acclaimed, sold-out world premiere at the La Jolla Playhouse. What did our critic think of HERE THERE ARE BLUEBERRIES at Tectonic Theater Project @ Shakespeare Theatre's Harman Hall?

Shakespeare Theatre Company has announced the cast and creative team for the upcoming production of Tectonic Theater Project's Here There Are Blueberries. 

Is learning a new language a hindrance to your heart’s love of your cultural heritage, is it purely functional, or is it a means of gaining enrichment and new understanding? Is precise pronunciation meant to trip lightly off the tongue in any language or is it best to take pride in your original accent?  Is Farsi one of the most poetic languages in the world? These are some of the questions raised in the alternately serious, disarming and somewhat indefinable play English now being presented at the Studio Theatre.

Beginning on January 11, and running through February 12, Studio Theater brings Sanaz Toossi's English to the stage. The play will be directed by Knud Adams and take place in Studio's Milton Theatre.

Beginning on November 9 and running through December 11, Studio Theatre will bring Duncan Macmillan's People, Places & Things to the stage. The play will be directed by Studio Theatre Artistic Director David Muse, making his first in-person directorial appearance since the pandemic, and will be only the second production in Studio Theatre's new Victor Shargai Theatre. 

William Shakespeare's joyous and popular comedy Much Ado About Nothing will open at Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival, the professional theatre on the campus of DeSales University. The show previews July 13 and 14, opens July 15, and runs through August 7 in the Schubert Theatre at the Labuda Center for the Performing Arts.

You can tell things are getting better in the world just by watching the Round House Theatre's latest production. It's the last of their filmed productions, for one thing. At its start, more people are seen coming into the theater to react to the performance - some 25 instead of the five or 10 in past productions. It's not strictly a solo performance on stage, as others have been - there's a backing band that even sometimes interacts.

Today’s subject Beth Hylton is currently living her theatre life performing on your TVs and computer screens as the sole performer in Round House Theatre’s latest streaming production of Throw Me on the Burnpile and Light Me Up. The show is available for viewing through June 13th.

In the most trying of times, the Round House Theatre has managed to put together a pretty remarkable season, entirely online but leaning on one-person showcases that eliminated the need of distancing among cast members.
