Apollo Theater and Opera Philadelphia to Collaborate for Years to Come

With the historic New York premiere of Charlie Parker's YARDBIRD just days away, The Apollo Theater and Opera Philadelphia today announced a multi-year partnership that will continue the staging of contemporary operas at the Apollo in future seasons. The next co-production between the two institutions will be the New York premiere of WE SHALL NOT BE MOVED, set for the fall of 2017.

?Award winning singer/ dancer/choreographer Paula Abdul has been named the honoree for the Professional Dancers Society's (PDS) annual Gypsy Awards Luncheon, it was announced by PDS President, Mitzi Gaynor and PDS Board Chairman, Joni Berry. Ms. Abdul will be honored on Sunday, April 24th at the Beverly Hilton Hotel (9876 Wilshire Blvd.) and famed choreographers Carl Jablonski and Kevin Carlisle will receive PDS Choreography Awards, for their extraordinary contribution to dance. In a special tribute, legendary entertainer Dick Van Dyke will receive The Dance Legacy Award.

The celebrated event returns to the historic Apollo Theater (253 West 125th Street) tonight, March 26, at 8:00 p.m. for its fourth year spotlighting emerging and established artists of today's African music scene. Joy Elan Releases LIFE IS A CANVAS

Bay Area author and poetess Joy Elan has resided all of her life in Oakland and Berkeley, CA. In her younger years-after having earned undergraduate and graduate degrees from U.C. Berkeley and Stanford University-she was an avid keeper of personal journals. After later publishing three well-received books of poetry, Elan began referring back to diaries that she recorded as long as ten years ago. She decided to share her personal life, dreams and life's lessons in a new biographical novel titled 'Life Is A Canvas.' Elan commented, 'Writing this book involved me going back in time and recreating some things that occurred in my life during 2005 and 2006.'

The year ahead sees the theatre staying true to its commitment to develop and produce new plays and musicals, as well as reviving one of its most successful runs of the last few years. Theatre Royal Stratford East achieved 86% capacity last year, with the most culturally diverse audience in the country.
