BWW Reviews: Going Back in Time with I LOVE LUCY LIVE at Dr. Phillips CenterBWW Reviews: Going Back in Time with I LOVE LUCY LIVE at Dr. Phillips Center
by Kimberly Moy - Jun 25, 2015

I LOVE LUCY - LIVE ON STAGE is probably best suited for audiences that already consider themselves Lucy fans. While those who aren't necessarily fans will likely still enjoy the show, I don't think that they will appreciate this production nearly as much as if they grew up with Lucy and Desi coming into their living rooms once a week. STAGE TUBE: On This Day for 6/8/15- Robert PrestonSTAGE TUBE: On This Day for 6/8/15- Robert Preston
by Stage Tube - Jun 8, 2015

Happy Birthday, Robert Preston! best remembered for his performance as 'Professor' Harold Hill in Meredith Willson's musical The Music Man (1962). He had already won a Tony Award for his performance in the original Broadway production, in 1957. In 1965 he was the male part of a duo-lead musical, I Do! I Do! with Mary Martin, for which he won his second Tony Award. He played the title role in the musical Ben Franklin in Paris and originated the role of Henry II in the original production of The Lion in Winter. In 1974 he starred alongside Bernadette Peters in Jerry Herman's Broadway musical Mack & Mabel as Mack Sennett, the famous silent film director. That same year (1974) the film version of Mame, another famed Jerry Herman musical, was released with Preston starring, alongside Lucille Ball, in the role of Beauregard Burnside. (more...)

BWW Reviews: The Engeman 'Produces' a Sensational PRODUCERSBWW Reviews: The Engeman 'Produces' a Sensational PRODUCERS
by Brian Rivera - Jun 8, 2015

I want to express the deepest gratitude to the director, Igor Goldin, for not directing his actors into a corner with this show. Each and every person onstage had a story to tell, and not just some façade to put on: a worry I typically have when viewing a comedic musical. Even each member of the ensemble had fantastic individuality and characterization that it makes one wonder whether an ensemble needs to necessarily “blend together” – which, in fact, is quite difficult not to do when the show decks out its actors in outrageous costumes that make Betsy Johnson and Alexander McQueen look (I won't be forgetting you, anytime soon, Sausage Dress…). Though, it's the joint effort between the lead players and supporting players that create magic on that stage, and this cast did just that. (more...)

BWW Reviews: Savvy and Sassy LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS an Enjoyable Musical RompBWW Reviews: Savvy and Sassy LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS an Enjoyable Musical Romp
by David Fick - May 9, 2015

Some three decades after its first premiere, LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS still delivers on its promise to be an enjoyable romp for its audiences. In this production, there is a great deal of fun to be had in the kind of musical that offers only the slightest commentary on the world around us - 'whatever they offer you, don't feed the plants' - and mostly expects its viewers to kick back, relax and go along for the ride. BWW Reviews: Nostalgic I LOVE LUCY LIVE ON STAGE at the Peabody Opera HouseBWW Reviews: Nostalgic I LOVE LUCY LIVE ON STAGE at the Peabody Opera House
by Chris Gibson - Apr 21, 2015

When I was growing up, I Love Lucy was a morning television staple, even though it had been off the air for many years. Reality shows have since replaced pretty much all of the stuff I grew up on, at least on the major networks, but you can still find the re-runs on stations like Me TV, which cater to the boomer generation with their lineup of classic programs. If you were lucky enough to be at the Peabody Opera House this weekend (April 17-19, 2015), you had the opportunity to see a recreation of two episodes of this iconic show with their presentation of I LOVE LUCY LIVE ON STAGE. This touring production is one you should definitely check out if you're into nostalgia, or just need a good laugh. (more...)
