On Sunday, December 7, The Pearl Theatre Company will present a one night only benefit performance of holiday readings, radio plays, and music hosted by WNYC's Leonard Lopate at the theatre company's home on 42nd Street. The special event will include selections of stories from Charles Dickens, Mark Twain, O. Henry, and many more performed by Members of The Pearl's Resident Acting Company including Dominic Cuskern, Jolly Abraham, Dan Daily (currently starring in Major Barbara), Chris Mixon, Carol Schultz and Brad Heberlee. Performing alongside Mr. Lopate and the Company will be the musical duo of Gelber & Manning, providing early jazz standards from Old New York. (more...)

The Italian Academy hosts the inaugural concert of *The Stefan Wolpe Fund featuring world premieres and works by Charles Wuorinen, Jonathan Dawe, Matthew Greenbaum and William Anderson tonight, October 30th at 8pm. Also on the program, a New York premiere for string sextet by Charles Wuorinen. Featured artists: JACK Quartet, pianist Steven Beck, Vox n Plux, violist Miranda Cuckson and cellist Jay Campbell. This concert was produced by Zaidee Parkinson and Alanna Maharajh Stone with generous support from *The Roger Shapiro Fund for New Music. (more...)

Leila Ghaznavi debuts her Edinburgh Fringe hit, Broken Wing, during the 2014 Philadelphia Fringe Festival, presented by Fringe Arts, September 10-20. This new piece from award-winning playwright and theatre artist Ghaznavi is an exploration of good intentions gone wrong in the Middle East. The show is conceived by Ghaznavi, the award winning playwright of Silken Veils, which was nominated for the prestigious Fringe First award at the Edinburgh Fringe 2010, had a sold-out run at the 2012 Philadelphia Fringe Festival, and was a hit show at the Chicago Fringe Festival 2010. Broken Wing will be performed at Theatre Exile's Studio X, 1340 S. 13th Street. Tickets cost $10-$12 and will be available at the Fringe box-office and online at www.fringearts.com.
